USB Drives on HP Pavilion dv5000 not working

I have an HP Laptop (model above) where the USB Drives (2 of them on top of each other) have stopped working.
I have tried checking the Bios, uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers, etc., but no luck.
I have run out of SW options to look at which (unfortunately) leads me to a HW issue.
Does anyone have any suggestions/advice?

I hate to be a pooper on your problem with the USB ports on the dv5000 that suddenly quite working. Our company purchased 8 from Sams Club for our field personel. Everyone was responsible for their own mouse, printers, etc. After about a year, (when warranty ran out), everyone of the eight units we bought were loosing USB ports. Some would loose all, others may just loose one of the two ports. After contacting HP and trying everything else recommended to us , we were told it was a mother board issue and the mother boards would need to be replaced.

    Good Luck

I know this thread is 2 years old, but the same thing happened to my dv9000 series all 4 usb ports went out..... flashin bios etc as the fellow above had no afffect. HP said the motherboard was hosed...... sound familiar? They are in the business to sell more computers. There was nothing wrong with the computer other than an error in it's registry. I'm no good at redoing registries, so I took everyting off the c drive and onto the secondary drive (inside) then removed the secondary. I put the computer into restart f11 and restored it to factory settings....after that and a lot of time reinstalling software, I have a new computer again. WITH USB ports working. so much for the motherboard being hosed.

Hp pavilion a1710n doesn't send to printer. Goes through every step, doesnt send. My laptop workds with the printer.

A few things come to mind. Are you sure the printer isn't a D4160??? The C4160 was sold in England. Anyways...

First, when you hit print a box opens up. On the top of that box make sure your printer is the one selected. It will have a green checkmark by it.

Second. Make sure the USB cable is connected between computer and printer. The Hp pavilion a1710n doesn't have a wireless network chip so it will need the USB cable connected for it to print.

I assume your laptop prints wirelessly and that is why it works and the HP does not.

Good Luck

I want to increase the memory ram of my lap top: HP pavilion ze4910us What kind and how much memory can I install ?

You can upgrade, have a look at the specs;

Pavilion ze4910us Memory Specifications Standard Memory 512 MB (removable) Maximum Memory 1.0 GB Memory Expansion 2 sockets Memory Comments PC2100/2700 DDR SDRAM SODIMMs CPU Type 1.4GHz Intel Celeron M 330 Model Comments 400MHz FSB Memory Upgrade for HewlettPackard Pavilion ze4910us Laptop, the HewlettPackard Pavilion ze4910us Laptop takes the PC2100/2700 DDR SDRAM SODIMMs Memory Type, and comes installed with 512 MB (removable) of Memory. You can upgrade your HewlettPackard Pavilion ze4910us Laptop to up to a maximum of 1.0 GB Memory, the system has 2 sockets to install Memory, already with 512 MB (removable) standard Memory installed. For best Laptop performance use the maximum amount of allowed Memory per slot for your Laptop.
Choose the following Memory Upgrade for HewlettPackard Pavilion ze4910us Laptop.

Hope that helps.

This is very tricky and I'd reccomend you get a technician to do this for you if you are not 100% confident - make sure they offer no-fix no-fee (like us at MCSLondon)
Anyway here is a guide:

The in my HP Pavilion dv5000 laptop is ditorted but when I hold from the top it will work?

I think your problem is LCD. To make sure, try entering the bios when your pc starts. You can enter bios by pressing F10. If within the bios setup utility, your problem remains same then yoy need to change the LCD.

Hp pavilion dv5000 laptop screen distortion

Same here. However mine is a toshiba satellite. Starts fine but after a minute or two its like watching tv in the 60s all sorts of white lines distort the screen. So i took the back off and removed all of the screws for the sceen around the top and bottom. Just the ones that mount it to the cover. By applying pressure to certain parts i managed to narrow it down and after about 10 attempts at ptting it all back together i did it with 2 screw missing in the top left hand corner and low and behold it seems to work fine. I am thinking that over time maybe some of the mouldings expand and maybe apply pressure onto the back of the screen and start to cause problems. I am not saying this is a cure for all but it certainly worked for me. Good Luck.
