I have an HP Laptop (model above) where the USB Drives (2 of them on top of each other) have stopped working. I have tried checking the Bios, uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers, etc., but no luck. I have run out of SW options to look at which (unfortunately) leads me to a HW issue. Does anyone have any suggestions/advice?

There are 3 possible problems from my point of view.
1) The cardreader is not working so you need to change it.
2) The inside connections are not working proprietly or unplugged.
3) The operatin sistem has problems with this cardreader
I think your problem is LCD. To make sure, try entering the bios when your pc starts. You can enter bios by pressing F10. If within the bios setup utility, your problem remains same then yoy need to change the LCD.
Same here. However mine is a toshiba satellite. Starts fine but after a minute or two its like watching tv in the 60s all sorts of white lines distort the screen. So i took the back off and removed all of the screws for the sceen around the top and bottom. Just the ones that mount it to the cover. By applying pressure to certain parts i managed to narrow it down and after about 10 attempts at ptting it all back together i did it with 2 screw missing in the top left hand corner and low and behold it seems to work fine. I am thinking that over time maybe some of the mouldings expand and maybe apply pressure onto the back of the screen and start to cause problems. I am not saying this is a cure for all but it certainly worked for me. Good Luck.
