make sure the UMD is not dirty or scratch or damage in any way. make sure the lens is clean. if your psp is able to read other UMD's then it would mean that the UMD is damaged. if PSP is not able to read other UMD's then you would need to get the lens replaced.
this same thing happened to me. insert a game and see if it will show th eloading icon on the bottom right hand corner of the screen if it dose then your umd drive is messed up. if you insert a game and nothing happenes then your motherboard is messed up. which ever one is mesed up it still invloves taking it apart its jsut a matter of what. find a video on youtube that teaches youhow to take apart your perticulart model of psp. and its pretty mucgh self explanitory from there take it apart and switch out the messed up hardware. remember im not responsible for anything that mite happen to you or the psp
If memory serves (I lost my PSP while moving) the UMD menu only appears when a UMD is inserted and recognized. If a UMD is inserted but the menu does not come up then either the UMD is bad or the laser is defective.
The PSP doesnt realy have any play options when u insert a UMD it will either start atomaticly or you can choose through system settings to turn on or off the UMD auto start which enables the PSP to automaticly start or you can disable the auto start or you can press x on the UMD icon and it will start. Now when it comes to movies you can bring up the movie mode options wich alow you to rewind FF pause all that good stuff. just insert a umd and when it begins to play press triangle. hope this was helpfull
Open the UMD door. You will see a large peg sticking up and behind it a small one. Press down on the small one, it is either Black or Gray. This is the senor switch that senses a UMD Disc is inserted. When you press this little peg down, look at the Laser to see if it lights up. If it does not light up. You need a New UMD drive. If it does light up. Press the peg down again, but this time look at the Spindle to see if it spins any at all. This is hard to see. If it does not spin in the slightest. You need a new UMD drive. If you do not have problem with lighting or spining, then get you a Q-tip and some Glass Cleaner./ Clean the lens on the laser.
