On your laptop if it is supported there should 3 little holes with the colors of pink, green, and blue. For the mic you need to plug right into the pink one. It may have a small picture of a microphone above it which means that is the place for the mic. Remember to install any software first if included.

Is there a LINE IN input at the back of the PC that is not a MIC input?

Hello jeff_glover
All computers have a line in and out input at the back of the tower . I 'm not familiar with your machine but if you can't find the inputs , go to the Device manager and check the sound, video and games controller .
Maybe it's only a question of driver and go then for an update from there . If you don't find the controller , you 'll need to purchase a sound card ( pci or vga ) .
Here are a few places where you can make your choise : http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&aq=2&oq=sound+cards&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4GGLL_enBE391BE393&q=sound+cards+for+pc#q=sound+cards+for+pc&hl=en&rlz=1T4GGLL_enBE391BE393&prmd=ivns&source=univ&tbm=shop&tbo=u&sa=X&ei=96KMTf3cONGRswby-P2NCg&ved=0CDUQrQQ&biw=1003&bih=630&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=7c15a4d4522ad2f7

My Dell Dimension E510 cannot pick up any voice recording from my various mic inputs. I have fiddled with volumes of each respective input (line in, rear mic, mic jack) to no avail, and when I try to use...

This sounds like you have a voice morphing program installed. A morph program is useful for distorting your voice and special effects, but it also takes over your mic controls. Go to the control panel and choose sounds and audio devices, then look for the default device under sound recording and make sure your record device is the same model as your sound device and that it says INPUT. Another problem occurs if you right click your little sound/audio icon on the taskbar and choose open volume control then left click. Do that now and choose, options, then properties. Now on mixer device, choose one that says input. The white window on the bottom of that panel will show you several devices, check mark them all and click ok. Now manually select MIC as your default sound input device and close then try again.

I want to uninstall built in mic and dont no how please help

Go to Control Panel and then Device manager. You should see a sound input line key on that anddisable internal Mic. there. If you have a new external microphone that came with software, it may ask you if you want to disable the internal mic. whiole you are installing its software.

Good luck. Hope it helps, but it is in the control panel devices.

have you check which input the system is selected for recording it mite be site for the mic not the line in
check this in xp by going to the mixer

click options
click properties
check the box recording
now it should show the recording sliders (check marke the mark the following boxs to see the sliders)
Line in press ok
Put a check in the Linein slider and make sure it selected and turn erup

i also use wave labs and forge and quick basic test if you can record from the mic then its selected as the input

make sure other inputs are down as you will also get feedback from the builtin mic

Mic outlet doesn't work

hello,

did you see a volume control in the task bar. In the volume control double click ..click the option and then properties, check the mic and line volume to display.. and then adjust the volume to higher..

if this not work u can , maybe the volume socket is defective but ican't believe..that is seldom case..

But if that is the case you can buy add on sound card and connect it to the pci port.

pls try first the solution above before going to buy new sound card.

may this help,

melnavz

PS: pls do not rate me if my solution not solve the issue and you need more further information. but if is invaluable solution rate me fixya.

Realtek audio device with sound effect menager

First thing is first, there should be 3 audio jack inputs. Line in, Line out and Mic. Make sure you are plugged into the Mic input.

Next if you are running windows XP check to make sure the Microphone volume is not muted and turned up. Do this by going to control panel --> Sound and Audio Devices --> volume tab --> Advanced button. The Microphone volume should be there if not select file --> properties and make sure microphone is checked. It should then appear on the volume controls.

This should take care of it if not what program are you using the mic with?

Mulitmedia speaker and mic not working

For the first problem open your multimedia properties box under the audio tab you will have a sound recording device specified, check whether you have your device listed, usually you have your say ( Realtek HD Audio input or the respective company input device who supplied your audio drivers). If its not listed ten you might be having problem with the drivers or hardware you will have to call the service engineer to have to problem solved.

for the second one try the same solution. select the proper devices under the audio tab in multimedia settings.
