Toshiba D-VR4 DVD Recorder/VCR Logo
Anonymous Posted on Apr 22, 2007

System Error I bought a Toshiba D-VR4 Recorder and it worked fine for about 5 months. Then Yesterday I tried to put a movie in and it tells me System Error please wait. I looked in the book under troubleshooting and it says it was caused by being shutdown before completing the termination process and it tells me to wait until the message dissappears. The problem is the message doesnt dissappear. I have unplugged it trying to reset it. I have left the message on for hours and it doesnt go away. It was working fine the last time I had watched a movie so I am not sure what actually caused it but I know it only plays VCR tapes now. no matter what dvd movie I put in, I get the same message.

I guess I jumped the gun when I posted the above message. I unplugged my DVD recorder all night and plugged it back in today about 16 hours later and my system error message is gone and it plays all dvd's again.

Tried viewing a DVD that I had previously viewed and received the System Error Please Wait error. Tried powering down and viewing another disk I'd viewed before and got the same error.

I can't get the system error message to go away. Holding down the channel up and play button doesn't do a thing. I had a power failure over 24 hours ago. Any ideas?

I was playing a movie I then I put on pause and then it froze. Nothing

would happen so I held down the on/off button until it shut down. After that

I would get the SYSTEM ERROR please wait message. I noticed that it

would not play any manufactured dvds, but it woudl play dvds that i

burnt so I figured there is some sort of software problems? Does that make

    any sense.

FYI...the best suggestion I've seen is to hold the channel up and play buttons simutaneously....thereby causing the machine to return to the "factory initialized" state. So far so good for me. We'll see. photog1

I also had that problem and the only thing that worked for me was to unplug it overnight. I left it unplugged for about 16 hours and I dont have that problem anymore..that was over a year ago..

I tried all the above ideas. Nothing worked. I talked to toshiba and they said I should have it repaired for about $130.00. I bought a Sony dvd player for $75. and I'm watching movies again. My casette recorder and player works just as the other person said, but a power interruption scrambled the brain of the dvd beyond ordinary limits.

When I turn my Toshiba D-VR4 recorder on, it won't go to DVD

I figured it out with absolutely no help from the manual. To initiate recording, you have to press the timer/set button. After the DVD recorder finishes recording, you have to re-press the timer/set button to take it out of recording mode. I think their book needs to explain that more clearly.

Toshiba D-VR4 DVD recorder/VCR player

you can get the cleaning disc at any electronic store or even at some other stores like drug stores and even at the dollar store , but if the laser lens is probably to dirty to even see that disc if your player will not even read a music disc, have you tried a music disc? can it read it ? if so the cleaning disc will work.
if not then taking the player apart and manually cleaning the lens will be required

My dvd always shows "system error" and won't play commercial copyright dvds, only recorded ones.

I had the same problem with my recorder except that it wouldnt play any discs at all.. I finally unplugged the recorder and left it unplugged for 16 hours. Now it is fine. I am not getting any error messages.
