I've just bought a Macally Portable USB Video Webcam. It works with my powebook 10.3.9 (in fact it works with 10.2 or later) however the latest version of skype doesn't seem to work on my laptop. I bought the cam online from www.ammicro.co.uk and it cost about £40 with postage. So I know that's only half solved your problem, but hope it's helpful.

Those who post that because it is line in you need a powered amp are idiots who have fallen into the hype that mac is.
I cannot offer a full solution only a possible solution rogue amoeba has created a program called LineIn whish certain users have seen fix their line in issue. However if it does not work you have just been screwed by one of the issues macs have (a mac is a computer... and therefore there are bugs and issues. sorry all you enthusiasts but it is true) you will either need to spend the money to get a new mic or wait for a future fix if they ever even care to. Which most likely they will not fix because everytime mac screws something up its users spend more money without even asking why.
Sir, try looking up the Cam on Logitech's site here: http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/webcam_communications/webcams/&cl=us,en please notify me then about the model of the cam and i'll try to look up the driver for that cam...I'm sorry for the delay of my reply...
