Here is a simple way to find out if it is the program that you are using or actually your computer. What I am going to do is list a link at the bottom for you to install and try and watch your movies on. This is called VLC it is a movie player with a bunch of different codec's. You can think of a codec as a way to translate the designed language of the movie into audio and video. Different movies are written in different ways and not all programs have all of the correct codecs. But anyway VLC is jammed packed full of codecs. I use it personally, never had a issue it works amazing. This is my quickest and easiest solution.

No sound device, just multimedia device after adding a new hard drive and Windows XP reinstall.

Are you booting in from one of 2 hard drives at start-up .. ie. do you have a dual-boot system?

If your sound works fine when using the original hard drive but not when you boot from the slave, then it sounds like a driver problem -in the slave. You'll need to download the sound drivers for XP/Slave.

I can't think of any reason why your computer should beep after you have opened and closed the case. I don't think it is anything to do with the case. It's more likely that there's a bad connection or fault (maybe you have the slave and master on the wrong cable) - or badly fitted RAM.

Count the error beeps - there is a pattern of long and short beeps. You can find a list of their meanings here:
http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1223

Though having said that, I would hazard a guess that you've got the master/slave configuration wrong. If you have both hard drives on one cable (ide) the MASTER drive should be at the end of the cable.

Remember there's a primary master (c) and a secondary master - your dvd drive. A 2nd hard drive would be set up to be the primary SLAVE. You cannot have 2 'master' drives on the same cable or bus. That would cause an error beep ...

Window media cannot play because there is sound problem in my computer

I wish, I can know the operating system installed on your computer and the exact error message that you are seeing on the screen. Anyway, try this.. first download and install this.. (Microsoft uaa bus on high definition audio driver). Open the link and click "Download" button and save it. After it's installed, download anyone of these..(select your Operating System):
1. Realtek High Definition audio driver for windows xp and previous windows versions.

2. Realtek High Definition Audion Driver for Windows Vista 32

Download and install the drivers, restart your computer and try playing songs/movies etc.. using the Windows Media Player. It'll work fine.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Atapi dvd a dh16a3l Won't Read DVD's

You can try cleaning the laser with a dry q-tip.

If that doesn't work, try booting a copy of Windows that was burnt to dvd or Ubuntu burnt to dvd.

Let me know what happens.
