Re: windows xp opens and closes right away
Hi! i can understand your problem. It happened to me once. I tried to run the PC in the safe mode but on safe mode it doesn't run the antivirus program. If you have your harddisk of IDE type then connect your friend's hard disk in your PC as a Slave and Yours as a master.
You can do this from your bios setup.
Then Scan his hard disk by your antivirus software and remove all the virus from his Harddisk.

Your computer is most likely infected with some sort of malware (virus, trojan, etc.). There are multiple ways to get rid of it, but because it sounds like you are having problems running any programs at all it makes it more difficult. You could try booting up in safe mode and then see if you can run an anti-virus program to remove any malware. Some anti-virus programs also have a bootable disc that you can put in the CD drive and run the anti-virus scan from there. If neither of these options work for you, you might have to reinstall Windows.
While you did a Anti virus scanning and fixing, the anti virus software purged or corrupted one of the .bat files or probably the shell script. The file Sola.bat was not operatable and Due to this you are not able to open the partitions.
Its wise to run the Windows Xp professional CD and run a Repair to Back the files which would work.
If the disk partition has an issue, on Active drive, you wont have the OS part initialised while booting. It would say A Valid OS not found or Non Bootable Partition. Good Luck.
Find Windows XP Product Key from the Windows XP CD:
1) Insert Windows XP cd into a working computer. 2) Exit the Autorun introduction. 3) Open "My Computer" 4) Right Click on the Windows XP cd-rom drive and select explore. 5) Open the USWXP32P_ZX folder. 6) Open the sysprep folder. 7) Open unattend.txt
Your CD's product key is contained within the unattend.txt file. Note: On some system disks, USWXP32P_ZX is a hidden folder. If you cannot locate the folder, you may also search for unattend.txt and mark "Search Hidden Files".
The computer can be cleaned from virus, by using a good anti virus software and a combination of anti spyware and malware softwares. Sometimes one anti-virus program may not be good enough to protect your PC. The best approach is to first back up all your important information like documents and pictures to a DVD or external harddrive.
You can use the following tools: http://www.microsoft.com/security/antivirus/remove.aspx
To get into the Windows XP Safe mode, as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key" which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" as shown below. Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode with Networking" and press your Enter key.
Note: With some computers if you press and hold a key as the computer is booting you will get a stuck key message. If this occurs, instead of pressing and holding the "F8 key", tap the "F8 key" continuously until you get the startup menu.
Hi, Thank you for your reply. I answer to your questions:
1. No, I have not recently installed new RAM
2. I have just made my laptop freeze so I could check the event viewer to see if anything came up - butno error is reported in the system, application or security logs. (PS: to cause the freeze I opened up My Pictures, right clicked on and image, clicked open. The image opened in picture viewer. I closed picture view without any problems but once I closed the My Pics folder the computer froze.)
The virus is called "Brontok" or "Rontok". Its much hard to get rid of it. It may cause ur computer to restart while opening any anti virus, cmd.exe, command.exe etc. Only way is to san the drive from some other computer with an updated anti virus.
Format driver with windows installation, instal windows, and install an anti virus before anything else ( do not open any drives except ur windows installation partition ) and get latest updates. Scan and remove virus.
I would suggest NOD32 or try the link below.
Kaspersky Free Online Antivirus (Note: It may take a while to install and update itself but its worth it)
