Question about Chicco Key Fit 30 (Atmosphere) Infant Car Seat
Hello and thank you so muchj for taking the time to read this. I'll first tell you the type of truck my brother owns, it's a 1999 Toyota Tacoma, smaller cab one. As a Christmas present to him and his wife we got them the chicco cortina travel system. When we were putting the system together, we decided to try to see if it would fit in the back of the truck. Well to our disappointment, it didn't. We are wondering if there is any way to manuiver the base to make it fit in the back of his truck, or if there is any type of adapter that we can get. He is on the thought path that he has to sell his truck, which he just paid off last month, and get an entirely new vehicle. I just wanted to make sure that he wasn't jumping the gun about buying a new vehicle. Thank you again for taking the time to read this, and please enjoy the rest of this amazing holiday season!
Hi and welcome to FixYa,
To my understanding, the Chicco Cortina Travel System includes both the Chicco Cortina stroller plus the Chicco KeyFit car seat bundled together. I am then assuming that you are referring to the Chicco KeyFit car seat with the advertised dimensions of 22 x 17 x 24 inches. While the 1999 Toyota Tacoma (assuming the two door) has an advertised internal dimensions: rear headroom (mm): 902, rear hip room (mm): 1,349, rear leg room (mm): 691, and rear shoulder room (mm): 1,354 or 35, 53, 27 & 53 inches respectively. So technically it should fit. I believe the problem is making the KeyFit get passed the two front seats.
A possible (but maybe not so practical) workaround you may want to explore:
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

Well he doesn't need to sell the truck but you are going to have to find another car seat that will fit. Probably another brand that makes a smaller base. There are no other bases for this car seat so you will need to take it back if you can. Costco usually has a good selection and I think may have one that will fit. Can't say off hand which exact one but take some measurements in the backseat and go shopping with the tape measure. Good luck.
