There is a little button at the back of the router usually, it might even say reset, just press it with a paper clip or pen and hold for 30 secs while its still on.

Press the little recessed Reset button in the rear. You press it with the tip of a pen. Have you checked for a label under the unit?

Once resetting, you will have to set it up again.

If it is the password for the router's wireless connection that you forgot, the only option is to reset the router to factory default condition, then re-enter all you configuration information (including the wireless password), and then change the password in the other computers to match.

There is a "Reset" switch that requires a paper clip or similar item to depress it (with the router on) and hold for about 10 seconds, then release. This puts the router back into its factory default state.

Hope that's helpful.

I have belkin F5D7230-4. i forgot my password. how do i get or change my password

You'll have to reset the router by pressing the reset button in the back for about 10 seconds. Once that is done, you'll have to go into the router settings to setup your password and security.

I sent my lap top in for fixing so I got it back and I am trying to connect to internet and it states it needs a WEP or WPA Network Key address to type in can you help me with this? my other email is...

1. Your router is the issue. It is asking for the WEP password or Network Key.
This is set up in the Wireless router.
You either know the password or have it written down.
If you are the administrator of the the router and don't remember the password or user name you will have to reset the route to factory default settings and go through the setup wizard and choose and create and save a new user name and password / WEP/WAP key. Consult your router cd for the instruction set. It will walk you through.

I have a desk top couputer and a lap top. the lap top crashed and since then I can,t get on the internet. the Linksys router as for a pass key to get on the internet and I forgot what this is. How do I...

First of all you need to connect to your router using a LAN connection (wireless won't work as you might not be connected wirelessly due to the missing WEP key) and follow the steps below:

1.) using the internet explorer (not AOl or MSN or..)but the internet explorer that your computer came with.
2.) enter "192.168.1.1" in the website address field. do NOT use www in front.
3.) this will bring you to a linksys website. You might need to login (default username and password is admin)
4.) click on wireless
5.) then wireless security
6.) then you will see the page with the wep key listed.
7.) use the first wep key listed.

In case nothing helps, you will need to hard reset your router which would erase all the settings and configuration and bring the router back to factory settings. You may refer to the manual to perform the hard reset, in case you have lost the manual leave a comment and we shall provide you the next steps.

Installed belkin router for my lap top - doesnt work

Hi,

Thanks for using Fixya!

You have the right gizmo there. You just need to set it up correctly. If you are in the US contact belkin @ 1 800 223 5546.

You need to know your ISP type first before trying to contact them. Know if you have a PPPoE (High speed DSL with password) Dynamic IP internet (no user name or password required to connect to the internet, usually used by cable internet providers)

After you find the right information just contact belkin and they will assist you with the proper router usage.

Have a great day.

I have forgotten the security password that had set for router

First: can you recover the password from your old computer? it may be saved in your browser's password list.
Second: rather than re-configure the router, all you may really need is the WEP key. Do you have that written down somewhere? or retrieve it from the wireless settings in the old laptop?

To default to "new":
The router should have a reset button accessible by way of a small hole and labeled "reset". Unplug power from the router for 30 seconds, and while holding the reset, plug the power back in. This should default, clearing any passwords etc. Important to Note: Lights should blink on the router, be careful not to interrupt power until the router has completed the reboot process. A power interruption may turn it into a brick.

If you find my suggestions to be helpful, please share with us some details so that others may benefit from knowing the whole story. Thank you!
