Kenmore Vacuum 116.36623501 does not stay on bare floor setting

When the vacuum is shifted from the carpet mode into the bare floor mode, it shifts back into the carpet mode when you try to use it on a bare floor. The vacuum will not stay in the bare floor mode.

It sounds like there is something wrong with the latching assembly. GO to the Sears Parts website and enter your Model number. Look at the parts assembly for the Nozzle, and the problem will be in one of items 12 through 17.

When the vacum is set on the bare floor mode, the on/off light blinks and the roller brushes stop working

This is normal. The roller brushes aren't needes on bare floors. They are used to brush lint, hair, etc. from the carpet that the suction itself wouldn't get.

I followed your directions to replace the belt on the Eureka Smart Vac 4870 upright bagged vac -- worked perfectly. Except when I turned it over and started using it -- the vacuum was in...

Obviously something is wrong. Take it to a vacumn repair shop and get it done right. The few dollors is not worth the frustration.

Brushes don't spin

Hello :
try this please : switch the carpet/bare floor dial back & forth 5 times, ending on carpet. Tilt the handle back as if to vacuum upright & lay the vacuum on its side so it is resting on the side opposite the carpet/bare floor dial. Turn the vacuum on.
or try this also if the above suggestion didn't work :
Maybe the belt is broke. You will have to replace the belt before the roller can spin. You must have run over something in the carpeting like string or whatever to have it break. Happens all the time. Get several replacement belts to keep as spares while you're at it as nothing is worse then having to vacuum and no spare belts.
please rate !

The brush rollers are on off, how do i turn them on? model #u6616-900

There is a slider on the front of the hood labeled "brushroll on/off. Carpet/ Bare Floor."

Slide this switch over to the carpet position. Note that if the handle is upright, it will not shift into "carpet" mode until you drop the handle back. This is a safety feature.

If the brushes are not turning at all, it is either your rubber belt, or possibly a problem with the belt tensioner.
