No power I just purchased a Clarion CMD5 for our boat. I had no problem with the install and was very happy with the results. It comes with the I-Pod cable and Sirius Satelite Radio which was also working. I walked away from the unit for two days and when I came back I plugged in my I-Pod turned on the unit and it would not read the I-Pod under accessory. In the instruction manual it said to open the cd compartment and push reset. I did this and the result was a power loss. The unit won't even come on. I than checked the troubleshooting part of the manual and it said to check fuse. I ran a contnuity check and the fuses are not blown. I also checked fuse panel on boat and and nothing was blown. I am not a happy camper with Clarion Can you help?

Sir,

Check the connections or again try to reset/connect with ipod. Also unplug the unit with one or 2 hours and try it again.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, let's try to do process of elimination:

  • there would be 2 wires that require B+12, yellow and red;
  • of course black goes to ground;
  • double check the connector at the rear of the unit. There might have been some corrosion, moisture;
  • in some versions/models, there is also a fuse below the connector inside a rectangular plastic cover;
  • check the fuse clamp/terminal/holder for corrosion;
  • since the primary problem now is a dead unit, do a bench test with a separate power supply.
Would appreciate an update on the results of the above.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

There is an internal fuse on the radio and an external one on fuse box, check both. Check if there is power coming to radio wirings.

In my boat is a Clarion CMD6 head unit with two rear CMQ1620R speakers, it distorts at medium to high volume, you cant turn it up load when going.Wishing to put two new speakers in the front, cannot cut...

Best bet is to take your boat to a qualified Marine Audio dealer (generally not a boat repair shop or marina), or to a good quality Car audio store that is insured to work on boats (separete insurance usually).
When it comes to boats, you need lots of power and speakers.
First thing to do is make sure what you have is properly installed. Then determine what is "distorting" .. is it too much base, purely volume or what.
Most boats we do (wakeboard style and river boats) we do: 40-75 watts RMS per speaker 4-6 speakers in boat 1 10" or 12" sub with 200-300 watts RMS Tower speaker if requested with 75-125 Watts RMS per speaker

Model-m 255 clarion installed in a pontoon boat. RADIO WAS WORKING JUST FINE, THEN I INSTALLED A (NEW) BATTERY FOR MY BOAT, HOOKED EVERTHING BACK THE SAME WAY. NOW, I HAVE POWER BUT (NO) SOUND...

Disconnect all the speaker leads and then hook one speaker (a new, known to work speaker) up directly to the radio using a short (6"-12") piece of speaker wire. Does that speaker work then?

My Clarion APX480M marine amp cuts out at random

try to unplug each speaker one by one while playing it. There can be a defective speaker that grounds out at the speaker terminal or internally causing the amp to go into protection causing all the speakers to go out.

Volume issues with clarion M309 installed on a boat

Hello jcox7704,

Your head unit is 50 watts X 4 channel maximum power and 21 watts RMS so it's possible that all you need is more power to the speakers. But even 21 watts RMS should be enough for normal speakers. Before investing in an amp, I'd check the speakers and their wiring. Measure the impedance (resistance) at the head unit side to see if they match up.

Hope this helps.

Clarion M5675 won't turn on

Take the stereo all the way out and hook the black wire to the negative terminal and the yellow and the red wire to the positive terminal on a charged car battey. If it still does not turn on you may have fuse in the back of the deck. If not it's probably fried.

Clarion CMD5 Marine problems

Adjust the tilt mechanism normally on the sides make sure they are in the correct position... They may be behind the mounts.

As for the Ipod check the connections, but try plugging the Ipod in as some leads only work when fully connected.
