Question about Washing Machines
Hi, I read your post. I'm having the same problem with my Maytag washer not spinning fast enough to dry clothes. The strange thing is that maybe the 3rd or 4th time that I run it on just the "spin" cycle, it will speed up and dries them perfectly. So, it appears only on the first spin cycle I have this problem. Unfortunately it takes forever to do laundry when you have to "spin" things 3 times.
Out of your suggestions below, what do you think it might be if it work sometimes? Also, just curious on cost of this repair since this is an older washer.
1. Bad gearcase (transmission).
2. Bad basket drive, with which the transmission couples to under the agitator.
3. Bad clutch/brake assembly. Which mounts on top of the gearcase under the basket drive.

if the belts haven't been replaced in a while, change them. after a eriod of ti,e belts will stretch, and become worn. this will prevent the washer from spinning out most of the water

I am also expiriencing the same situation.
I took a look at the machine and it appears to be in good working order.
But the belt does appear to be in need of replacing. I have ordered one and should find out everything will be back to normal once it is installed.
The worn belt would explain a lot.
- Light load are fine due to the lack of power needed to spin the contents.
- Heavy loads need the maximum amount of power it can get to spin.
But does not because the belt is slipping further into pulley grooves and is probably partially slipping, due to the wear.
