Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

H, I have a Whirlpool Fridge freezer CB60PL E-2CP FAN The red warning light has come and is flashing intermittently. The ice tray compartment is defrosting. Power is on and the two lights either side of the red are showing green. The machine has not been moved and we have not attempted defrosting with a blade etc. Can you advise? Tim Burton

Please be advised that I find it offensive that Whirlpool see a customers problem as simply an opportunity to earn further money. The Company is not even honest enough to advise the customer in advance (before he completes a query report) that he is going to be charged for the assistance.

I will never buy a Whirlpool product again, and I will advise all my friends against so doing.

Yours Sincerely

Hotpoint FZ175G red warning light comes on freezer still freezing after reset light comes on again after a couple of hours

Red light on for High Freezer Temperature Warning
or freezer not cooling, but fridge is and a lot of noise from compressor.
Also, fridge drain hole blocked, water in bottom of fridge.

This is a common fault in Hotpoint Fridge Freezers and can also happen if the door has been left open or has been a power cut.

1. Turn off fridge freezer, or at least turn down the freezer temp to minimum, though not ideal.
2. Open freezer door and remove all drawers.
3. Remove the back panel on the inside of the freezer. This is held in place with 4 screws, which might be 6mm hex head or star allen head. Pull the panel out.
4. Behind where the panel was, there is a cooling element for cooling, pipes, and below this a temperature sensor. If the fridge freezer is not switched off, then fold together a few layers of tinfoil and wrap around the sensor.
5. Use a hairdryer to slowly melt the ice. Melt it around areas where it appears to be hanging on, such as the corners of the cooling element or bolts, as well as any thin sections below the main block of ice around the cooling element, which will be supporting the main block. Use a plastic ice scraper to remove ice but not near pipes or sensor.
Warning: Be careful using electrics around water & melting ice & drips.
6. Below the cooling element, there is a drip channel & drain hole. If this hole is full of ice, pour a small amound of warm water down, leave for 10 seconds and pour a bit more until clear.
In the fridge, clear the drain hole in the same way.
Warning: Do not pour a lot of water down, as this water drains onto a tray above the hot compressor at the rear of the fridge freezer to be evaporated by the heat of the compressor and the tray will only hold a small amount.
7. When all ice is removed, dry all moisture. Put the shelves back. Close door. Turn on fridge freezer. Turn up the freezer temperature to your normal setting. Turn on fast freeze if available. After 1 hour, check with a thermometer. It should be cold enough after 1 or 2 hours.

Fridge warm, freezer has frost on back panel & is defrosting, fans work, just changed defrost thermostat, no air is moving from freezer side to fridge side, drain pan under fridge is dry

this fan needs to run when the compressor runs, check fan blade for being jammed by ice if you have this much ice on back wall as ice will stall motor,if no fan there will be no cool air to refrige compartment also the defrost drain tray will fill with water then freeze over which in turn floods the freezer floor and refrige compartments cause it cannot drain to the pan in the bottom

Flashing light re temperature in fridge jenn air model

Your freezer may be a fan cooled system. Make sure that nothing is crammed up against the fan grill as this stops the air flow and probably causes the red light warning

FP E381T, lights won't stop flashing, fridge not cooling properly

There is another fan to draw air into fridge compartment- access via fridge: remove back panel (long plastic cover- just clips off). Remove control housing (again, just clips off- careful of wiring though). Fan is located up in this channel between fridge and freezer compartments. However, from what you are describing, I think you have a blockage in the freezer drain, causing a build up of ice in the freezer which blocks the air flow to fridge.  To check, remove rear panel of freezer (clips off- you need to press down two clips at top of panel, they can be tricky to get off!!). Disconnect fan motor wiring by unclipping plug connection, and remove sensor wire(white wire) so panel can be removed completely. Now have a look in the trough underneath the evaporator, and check for ice buil up- there should be no ice in this trough. If it is iced up, you need to defrost ice and then pour some water in the trough and see if it runs away. In the middle of the trough there is a small hole where the water should run down and away to collector tray at rear of fridge- if this hole is blocked, water won't run away, so builds up and freezes and blocks air flow to fridge. If hole is blocked, poke a wire down to unblock.
If in doubt, call in the experts- F+P fridges can be a bit fiddly getting apart, as everything clips together ( I worked for F+P for 10 years, and I still sometimes have problems getting panels off easily!!)
Good Luck!!

RED TEMP WARNING LIGHT ON MOTOR RUNNING

I'm sorry to have to tell you that this sounds like a very expensive fault to fix!
Either your fridge/freezer has degassed (lost the refridgerant gas) through a small leak in the pipe system behind or inside the freezer compartment, OR the compressor (what you called the motor) has started to fail.
Either way, these are very expensive repair jobs. It's possible to replace the compressor within about an hour, but if your model is out of guarantee, there will be around a £50/60 Call-out charge and the compressor will cost between £75 and £150 depending on the model.
Alternatively, if the fridge/freezer has lost gas, the engineer would have to try to find the leak - this could be IMPOSSIBLE if the leak is within the pipework inside the back of the fridge or above/below the freezer compartment.
I'm sorry to say that it's looking like you may have to part with a lot of money - or say goodbye to the fridge/freezer you have!

Freezer ice making compartment stays in lock mode

the thermostat in the ice machine is not working. its most likely tha the icemaker is a FSP whirlpool it's a lot surer to just replace the hole head and be done with it unless you'd like keep dealing with it.

Hotpoint fridge freezer green and red light on, switch offering 0

It could be a few problems to do with electrics, but try this first:

Red light on for High Freezer Temperature Warning

Have a hotpoint rsf60 fridge/freezer,noticed over temp red light on, defrosted as ice buid up on top shelf of freezer.light still on red temp set at 3/4 ?

The red warning light will not go out?

1. Has the fridge freezer just been
installed? If so, this is normal and the
light will go out when the correct
temperature has been reached.

2. Has the fridge freezer been loaded
with a large quantity of food? If so,
the light will go out when the correct
temperature has been reached.

3. Have the doors been closed
properly?

FFA60 Hotpoint fridge/freezer Red warning light

if i read the english right, the compressor runs but the freezer fan only runs for a short time. no fan then no cooling. there is a fan stat so that the fan only runs when the evap is down to temp. this may be faulty. also on some hotpoint, the fan switches off when door opened. check door switch operating ok. this may also explain problem with fridge lamp
