What Windows are you using? Windows 98 or Windows 2000?

The reason why I ask is because there are different steps that need to be taken with each one. Also, did you just flash your motherboard bios?

    Hope to hear from you,

    Have a nice day!

was the message no NTLDR or LTDR .

the NTLDR refers to your HDD failing and would only be resolved normally with a disk rescue utility such as Spinrite or a complete format and reinstall.

The power supply needs to be checked that it is putting out all the correct voltages, if one is missing it would explain why the motherboard is not starting.

Reinstall the Operating system (Windows). Missing file is from there. Many computers don't switch on USB when in BIOS - borrow a keyboard with a standard PS/2 plug on it, but the USB will be fine once the Operating System is reinstalled.

My computer is missing a file "windows\system32\config\system." how do i replace it? i cant even get windows to start!!!!!

Reinstall windows.
Sometimes using the "repair" option first on a reinstall will fix it.
Basically what is missing is the system configuration information.
Another option is to remove the drive and place it into a working machine and then scan the drive with a file recovery utility to find the missing files and restore them, that depends on how technical you are or familiar with file recovery procedures.

My dell optiplex won't switch on.

Here'w what I would do: Unplug everything (hard drive, CD, DVD), and even consider taking out the modem if you have one. Now try to start it. If it starts (but, of course gives you a "missing boot device" error, start it up with only the hard drive. If there is a speaker in the system, you might consider removing the memory to see if it gives you an error beep code. If these things don't work, then you're looking at a new motherboard.

Not starting up

use the recovery CD to start, maybe it can fix the issue as well.

WARNING: Do NOT allow it to replace the information without backing up, it could set it to factory 'zero'

Lenovo recovery through dvd

To boot to the recovery console follow these steps:
1. Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then restart the computer.
Click(or press any key) to select any options that are required to
start the computer from the CD-ROM drive if you are prompted.
2. When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
3. When prompted type "1" or if you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer,
select the installation that you must access from the Recovery Console.
4. When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.
5. Now you should be at the command prompt and ready to repair the ntldr file!

Ahh the price of buying a pc with software installed. I think it should be outlawed. You were obviously charged for the operating system when you bought it so where is your CD?
So always make a start up disk and back up ok......
You could try calling the manufacturer of your system. If you don't get the answer you need the first time call again & again. Someone is bound to feel for you. Otherwise you get to pay MicroSoft again and buy another operating system.
