Question about Iolo Technologies System Mechanic: Windows

Iolo system Mechanic 8 causes registry problems

OEM software, I don't have a CD. Unable to run Corel and MS Office, I reloaded XP, then reinstalled SM 8. And now the same thing has happened again.
I contacted Iolo who referred me to a support doc., but this was of no use.

Are there any registry maintenance tools out there that actually work & don't mess up your PC?

Thanks a bunch, Edwin270, but I've been unable to get Iolo to reply to my request for a refund, so I'm going to keep trying to make SM work for me rather than invest in more software. An update just released by SM may have fixed the problem and so far it has not messed up XP on my laptop. I rate SM a zero on helpfulness. Sorry the first part of my original message disappeared, but you seem to have gotten the gist.

For me the problem was Windows Defender in MS Vista. Windows Defender cannot easily be removed from the OS but it can be switched off which did the trick. Go to the options/settings icon (a cog) and make sure it is completely deactivated BEFORE you install System Mechanic. NB: be thorough - go right to the bottom of the list of options and switch everything off. Good luck.

How to install SystemMechanicPro

First thing first I'd check if my machine meets the requirements. [To run SM Pro your computer must meet the following requirements: run Windows 7, Vista, or XP/CD or DVD drive (for CD-based installations)/ 120 MB free hard drive space/at least 256 MB RAM/Internet Explorer 6 (Service Pack 2) or later/Internet connection (required for license activation)]
If all are OK than you can move on and download and install the software.
Here are the instructions and the developer provided:

Have you tried re installing the software.

These problem usually occur when you are using a trial versions that have expired or a "half-cracked" version of a software. In order to reinstall the program you have to do some Registry editing. If you are a "novice" don't try to edit the registry, any errors you may make might render your system unbootable. (Do at your own risk)

Alternatively you can use a commercial uninstaller like 'final installer' or 'perfect uninstaller', etc...an many more in the market. Reinstall the program and use the uninstallers to remove the program and its remnats from the registry.

The "the component IoloSystemService" Error message shows up due improper installation of the System Mechanic Pro. Some of the Iolo dependencies failed to get activated and that is the problem.

Now the only solution to fix it is to follow a thorough uninstallation of the System Mechanic Pro.

For WinXP, you can uninstall it from the "Add or Remove Programs".

Next, once its unistalled do not RESTART the PC.

Now, go to the Registry (press "windows" + R to open the run command and type "regedit").

OR

Click the Windows start button and select RUN. Type REGEDIT on the openfield.

On the left-hand side, expand HKEY_CURRENT_USER by clicking the + symbol next to the entry.
Expand Software.
Expand the iolo folder.
Navigate to the System Mechanic Professional folder.
Right-click on the System Mechanic Professional folder and select Delete.

On the left-hand side, expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE by clicking the + symbol next to the entry.
Expand Software.
Expand the iolo folder.
Navigate to the System Mechanic Professional folder.
Right-click on the System Mechanic Professional folder and select Delete.
Click Yes to confirm the deletion.
Close the Registry Editor.
Click Start>My Computer and then navigate to your Local Disk (usually the C: drive) then Program Files\iolo\System Mechanic Professional.
Right-click on the System Mechanic Professional folder and select Delete.
Click Yes to confirm.

System Mechanic causes Registry problems

Hi,

I use nCleaner and have had absolutely no problems for over a year now. I find System Mechanic has too large a 'footprint' and, like you said, is pretty incomprehensible to use out of the box.
The only thing that took me unaware with nCleaner was that it cleaned out My Received Files by default, so all the photos I had been mailed through Messenger were deleted, so make sure you copy them into another folder first :)
I have never had any software problems after using it though, and I install and uninstall programs pretty regularly!
So it comes highly recommended. It's a bit like CCleaner (if you have heard of that) but with more functions like Registry Clean.
I would reinstall XP first though as SM seems to have messed up, and you want a clean start. Also remember to reinstall all the XP drivers for your motherboard too.

Hope this helps
