I have a canon t3i. The menu doesn't turn on when you turn on the camera.

The menu doesn't display when you switch on. You should get the settings screen appear. Once powered up just hit the MENU button

Want to buy a flash to mount to the camera

The SX10 has a standard flash mount, which will fit just about any flash unit. The manual recommends the Canon Speedlite 220EX, 430EX II, or 580EX II units. Other manufacturers' flash units will also work, though perhaps not as automatically.

The big thing to watch for is that older (film-era) flash units may have higher trigger voltages that can fry newer digital cameras. Before buying such a unit, check this list.

I tried my Canon Speedlite 550EX to both Canon Rebel XT and G10 Canon G10 is much brighter. How come. I shoot at the same target and distance.

Check to see that both cameras are set to the same settings. For example, turn both cameras to manual and set them both to the same aperture, ISO, and shutter speed. This could account for the difference in brightness if one is set to be more light sensitive than the other.

Aaaaaaaaflash not firing with fresh batteries

If you try new batteries and that does not solve the problem then the problem is with the flash circuit. The flash draws most of the power because it is Xenon. If the flash isn't working, then the battery should last long and this will tell you that the flash circuit is the problem. The problem might be due to a cold solder or a bad component. But I'm pretty sure that the flash itself is good. Fixing it would cost you around $100. I wish I could do some wand trick to solve the problem but there ain't no easy fix for this. If you have any other queries then I would be glad to assist you further.

Canon 5D and canon 40D are they type A or type B cameras as per 380 EX manual

Hi Bruce,
You have the latest cameras and they will work with ETTL II with Canon 430EX/550EX/580EX and 580EX II. Earlier models use ETTL and films use TTL.
Hope they are helpful.

Canon speedlite 430 EZ does not match with canon 400 D digital camera how to use the same flash with 400 D.

You can't. The metering systems are incompatable. You must use the EX range with the 400D, such as 430EX or 580EX (versions I or II)

Remote Firing of Flash Units

The EOS 40D does not have a transmitter built in. The remote flash units must be set to "Slave" and the on-camera external flash unit (eg Speedlite 580EX) or transmitter (ST-E2) set to "Master". Note that the Speedlite 430EX doesn't have the function to act as Master and you need a minimum or the 580EX or a ST-E2 speedlite transmitter (or similar) as Master/s.

Slave Flash

I'm guessing you're talking about a wireless connection...

Unfortunately, the 430EX can only act as a slave. You'll need one of the following to act as a master control unit: 550EX, 580EX, 508EX II or the ST-E2 transmitter :-(
