Run DVD through tuner

We lost video through the DVD player when moving some furniture. The TV only has one cable to the cable TV box. The TV delivery guys did not have the DVD plugged into the TV, just somehow into the tuner. I tried an S cable, and still the TV (LG) will not recognize the device is there at all. What am I missing?

The thing is, everything was working fine until we slid the stereo cabinet across the room a few feet. We did not use, or need any extra equipment. The TV delivery guys used the hdmi cable, and the TV had nothing else going in to it but we did have video from the DVD. We are not using it for recording, only movies.

We're still down to the fact that the appliance store folks hooked everything up through the stereo tuner not the TV. The LG TV never had anything going into it except the HDM cable. The LG TV says no signal, when we select the input for DVD. Don't know how to get it to recognize the DVD player. Again, it was working fine without any extra equipment.

ok , lets test HDMI Jacks and cables. Grab Dvd Player and plug it into another Tv. Keep in mind that some Tv's need to have media powered or "On" before recognizing HDMI is being used, thus sometimes giving you the " No Signal" message. Make sure all media is plugged in and powered first and then turn on TV. If you cannot view it or get "No signal" message on second TV , replace HDMI cable. If it does not work your dvd may have damage HDMI port as a result from being pulled, when furniture was moved. If it works either cable or HDMi is damaged on your TV( Hopefully the other HDMI ports on your TV should be working fine) , so , change to another HDMI on your TV or change cable or both. HDMI jack are sensitive to being pulled or stretch and usually the cable pays the price.See if this works otherwise my last suggestions "update your TV software" consult manual for this. Otherwise TV repair , may need to change your HDMI board ??? I know a really good , serves south Florida Fast Tech Repair 954 353 5855.. Good luck !

Ok a bit confused, Tuner ? like amplifier or Tv Tuner ? regardless seems like a easy fix .

First your cable box as 3 cables:1st . Power cable to outlet
2nd. From the wall ( usually a Coaxial cable coming from outside box ) into cable box.3rd. HDMI or Second coaxial cable ( One of these usually goes to the back or side of your Tv depending where inputs are located.)
Now Dvd has 2 cables 1st to Power2nd. To TV ( Hdmi or Coaxial )
On the back of your Tv will have 2-3 HDMI inputs . Assign 1HDMI jack to each media your trying to use.In this case TV HDMI 1, HDMI 2 DVD.
Assigning HDMI's will now reflect on your TV menu selection. Choosing HDMi 1 or HDMI2 from Tv menu will allow you use or view desired Media option in this case DVD or TV.
Now if there is Amplifier / Tuner involved like to connect surround sound to, connection may be a bit trickier however same principal.Plug all media into HDMI 1, HDMI 2, respectively, this time to the back of the tuner NOT to back of TV.Once you have done that You will need a third HDMI cable now from the back of the Tuner ( output Jack, usually has lighter color markings indicating Output HDMI) to your HDMI 1 jack in the back of your TV. Now you have bridge TV/ Cable , DVD into Receiver / Tuner and Selecting media will now be done not through TV Menu as before but through Tuner / Receiver menu or selection.
Good luck .

Good Luck

Yes, Onkyo tuner. Did all that. TV will not recognize the DVD component and says no signal. LG TV's says maybe the TV is having a problem!?

SOURCE: Trying to Install

Do you have the red, white and yellow hookups on the back of your TV????? If you don't then you need to get an RF Modulator. You can buy one at Walmart. Older TVs don't have the red, white and yellow hookups. You hook up the RF modulator with a short cable to the cable outlet on your TV. Then you plug in your DVD player to the RF modulator. You also plug your cable for the TV into the RF modulator. It really is very simple. Directions are included with the RF modulator. You will need a short piece of cable also.

SOURCE: Cable box, digital service, channels not appearing

connect the RF lead from the wall to your cable box then out from that to your dvd then out from your dvd to your tv. now connect a scart lead from the cable box to AV 2 on the DVD then connect AV 1 on the DVD to your TV if you have a second scart on your tv connect that to the cable box. NOW on the DVD select AV2 now whatever is on the cable box will be recorded onto DVD/VCR. Put the DVD recorder into VCR mode and set it to auto tune all the Digital Video Broadcasts. You cannot physically tune the cable boxes own channels into the DVD via RF it has to be via a scart.

Step2, svideo out of dvd to svideo in at video1 section on tv. or
Step3. using component video DVD unit component video out to TV unit component video in at video2 Y to Y input of TV Pb to Pb input of TV Pr to Pr input of TV
for audio, connect left/right audio of dvd to left/right input of tv. Input section of TV is in the middle. on tv back panel from left to right is antenna input, IN section - this is it, use this for all your connections. let us know if you have any issues. thanks.

How do I connect the wireing

The VCR portion is connected to yhe TV via yellow-end cable(video) from "video out" to TVs "video in" and red and white-end cables(audio) from "audio out" to TVs "audio in". The DVD plays via HDMI cable from "HDMI out" to TVs HDMI in. S-video cable can be used if no HDMI terminal is available on TV. External tuner in (cable TV, Satellite) is connected to the video and audio in terminals or better yet if S-video out is available on the tuner box.

I cannot record from tv ? how do you get the channel on that you want to record ? i can dub, play tapes or dvd's, but can't record ?

This model does not have a tuner so you will not be able to record off of tv unless you run your cable box or dish satellite's audio and video outputs through the dvd recorder's front or back inputs(L1 or L2) and record from those sources. Even then the cable box or satellite box would have to be tuned to the channel that you want to record. If you choose to do this you must go to your on screen menu and under setup/general settings/video/video input you will need to select the video input source(L1,rear or L2, front).

Sound from tuner but no other devices

The RX-V365 cannot process audio from the HDMI cables (you will still be able to hear it on your TV), you will need to run a seperate coaxial or optical cable into the audio input for the relevant component on the back of the RX-V365.

Cant hook dvd/vcr to my cable box the manual says I need a extern

The cable box IS an external tuner.  You should connect the video output (either S video, HDMI, or component video) of the cable box to the video input of the DVD.  Then connect the audio output of the cable box to the audio input of the DVD via stereo RCA cables.  If your tv monitor has multiple inputs (ie: video 1, 2, and 3...) connect the video and audio output of the DVD to your tv monitor using an alternate video input (if cable box goes into your tv thru video 1, connect the DVD to video 2).  If your cable box only has one output, or your tv has only one input, then just connect your cable box to the DVD as above, and connect the DVD to your tv.

Vcr/dvd combo recording problems

I would need your exact model # to get very specific, but in general:
The "External tuner" will need to come from your TV or a cable/sat box, generally. If your TV has a Video OUT or a Monitor OUT (most television don't), you can hook a yellow AV/RCA video cable from the TV to the Magnavox. You will also need to hook a red/white audio cable from the Audio OUT of your TV to the Magnavox.

Your TV probably doesn't have a Video OUT, so you will need to buy a box. A digital cable box for your cable service would be the best investment. Alternatively, if you can find a digital-to-analog converter box (but these are iffy). Once you have one of these box types, you will need to hook a red, white, and yellow AV/RCA cable from the video/audio OUT of the box to an available video/audio in on your television.

Once your connections are correct, the general rule with tuner-less recorders is: If you can see the channel that you want to record on the television screen, then you will be able to record it.

One final note about Feb 17, 2009: Thanks to Congress, the digital transition date was moved to June 12, 2009 - many areas have already switched, but there is at least a chance that you are in an area that hasn't switched yet.

Let me know the exact model # of your television, and I can tell you if it has a video/monitor out - or, let me know what type of box you decide to buy.

Good luck!

I was watching my tv (sanyo) with cable hooked to it. The cable all of a sudden went out. I tried hooking up the dvd player and the tv is no longer recognizing the cable box or dvd player. I don't know...

sound like a tuner problem. there is a resistor that goes to the tuner that could of went bad 39,000 ohms i think which should have a orange white orang strips around it and a gold. anyway there is a problem with tuner. Sanyo was good about haveing a problem with tuners in there smaller sets. If you do not know anything about how to repair you probly shoud take to a shop but the total cost might be high and not worth it in the long run. think before you jump still water runs deep.

Dvd recorder does not have tv tuner

sure you can record from your TV. You need to connect the AV1 of the tv to the AV1 of the DVD recorder. Then, when the TV is running, you can simultaneously record on your DVD recorder.

Use a SCART cable for the connection.

No input from cable connection

Sounds likely you have a bad tuner. If you have a cable box with your cable service and it is upgraded for video and audio rca jacks output you can run red white and yellow wires to tv input where the DVD is connected or additional jacks if available. This bypasses the tuner
