Question about Hotpoint TDC32 Electric Dryer

Spins but no heat

Hi,
I have a hotpoint CTD40 condenser dryer. It spins as normal and was working OK until yesterday when it stopped. I cleaned the filter and the thermal exchange unit so it's like new, and now it will spin etc but there is no heat. Do I need to re-set anything to get it going again? Thanks.

Barkencoa, many thanks for the help. It certainly assisted, especially testing the continuity of the heaters. Luckily, I have some electrical/electronics background, but for those who dont, this is how I finally fixed it.....

Look on rear of machine, there is a removable panel which goes from the centre to the bottom left. Remove the screws on the outside edge of this panel and take it off. You will see two screws on their own on the panel, these keep the heaters and 3 stats in place, please dont remove these at this time. As you look at the inside of the panel you will see a number of heater filaments which look like curled up wires partially burnt. Test these for continuity and if OK, leave them alone. You will then see three small round objects the size of a 10p piece with wires coming from them. These objects are the stats. As you look at the stats from the same side as the wires going into them, you will notice ONE of them has a very small hole in the centre of it. PLEASE ENSURE THE ELECTRICITY IS SWITCHED OFF AT THE WALL.

Now, get a pin or sewing needle and push it into the hole and you will hear a click. This has now re-set the stat. Replace all the bits and put the cover back on. Switch on at the wall and place a couple of damp pieces of clothing in the dryer and use as normal. It is now fixed saving you lots of money.

    Cheers all

    Kevin.

Update - we solved the same problem by resetting the Stat. Follow the instructions posted by kevinwhiteho, but we found that you had to push on the opposite side of the Stat with your finger whilst pushing the pin onto the trip mechanism.

There is no reset button on this m.c, most likely cause of prob, is faulty heater and or stats..Remove rear access panel, and with a meter, test for continuity on stats , and on heater. make sure the wires are removed from the stats, or you will get false readings.
Use the meter on the ohms range, you should get f,s.d (full scale deflection). if no movement on meter, then part is open cc't. Replace both stats even if one is o/k.
Plz rate my solution.
Thanks.

Either there is a fault in the power supply to the heating coils, or the heating coils have burned out. A multimeter will come in handy at this point to check continuity across the terminals to the heating coils, and to test current supply to the coils. Be very very careful since you are dealing with 220 volts. If you do not feel comfortable doing it yourself, call an appliance repairman.

Dryer not heating up

I hate to tell you but get ready for more problems with this drier, it has a bad track record. In some cases cleaning the condensor out and drying the unit well will allow the unit to function again. Once a month you need to empty the condenser unit, this is under the bottom panel at the front of the tumble dryer, you simply pull the panel down, undo the condenser and pull it out (it is normal for there to be some water in the tubes when you do this), you then have to flush the condenser by pouring water through it in either your sink or tub. Make sure that there is plenty of room around the drier and empty the water container often. This curcuitry of this unit it sensitive to high humidity and can cause the unit to not function properly. So with condensing dryers you have to work on keeping them clean. Let me know how it goes. Later DRRXR

HOTPOINT AQUARIUS CONDENSER TUMBLE DRYER CTD40

There are three water reservoirs - one at the bottom behind the condenser, a second at the back bottom of the machine and then a third at the top which is the one you would normally pull out to empty.

There is a hole at the bottom of the filter in the first reservoir (at the back of the condenser) which leads to the second reservoir at the back. If the hole gets clogged up with lint/muck then the reservoir at the back does not fill up.

So to solve this, unplug the machine, take out the condenser (front left bottom of the machine) reach through to the back and mop up the spare water with a towel and check that the hole to the back reservoir - you can feel this it is towards the right side at the back of the machine is clear from muck.

Once you have cleared it, water will flow to the second reservoir and then (once you switch on the machine) up to the main removeable reservoir at the top.

Hopefully this helps. GB
