The router should have a reset button accessible by way of a small hole and labeled "reset". Unplug power from the router for 30 seconds, and while holding the reset, plug the power back in. This should default, clearing any passwords etc. Important to Note: Lights should blink on the router, be careful not to interrupt power until the router has completed the reboot process. A power interruption may turn it into a brick.

If you find my suggestions to be helpful, please share with us some details so that others may benefit from knowing the whole story. Thank you!

How i reset to factory defaults without passwords?

That depends upon the brand of the router. It would be wise to google for the particular brand.

There often are software means to perform a reset but here are the hardware means.

For Netgear:

  1. Press and hold the Wireless On/Off and WPS buttons until the Power LED blinks red (about 6 seconds).
  2. Release the Wireless On/Off and WPS buttons and wait for the router to reboot.
For Linksys:

1. Press the red reset button on the back.
2. Unplug it from power for 30 seconds. Plug the power back in.

For Belkin:

1. Find the reset button (depends on the model).
2. Depress the reset button for 15 seconds.
3. Wait one minute for the router to restart.

Here is a tutorial for Cisco routers:

http://www.networkworld.com/article/2343961/cisco-subnet/how-to-reset-a-cisco-router-to-factory-default--removing-the-startup-configuration-file.html

Here is one for TP-Link:

http://www.tp-link.us/article/?faqid=496

For D-Link:

Push a paperclip into the hole marked reset on the back and keep it depressed for 10 seconds.

The default user name is usually admin and there is no password (password is blank).

Need to retrive my password

From a web browser type LinkSys / Cisco Information on bottom of the router - Factory defaults. Information on most.
192.168.1.1
User: admin
Password: admin
once you're in, check and see if there is a check box that says: Show password. If that's not a supported option, then with the router login information above - Do a hard reset - Press and hold the button in the back of the router for about 5 seconds - This removes ALL PREVIOUS settings, you will have to reconfigure your router.

My cisco router is not booting properly after turned on. it rather write show some language that is not known and then stop. it would not bring any of the command line or rommon or user mode up

Straighten one end of a Norwegian-invented paper-clip, and insert it into the small hole on the back of the router, and push-and-hold it.
This will reset the router to "factory" settings.

Reconfigure it, e.g., wireless network ID, et cetera.

Reinstalling cisco m20 0n vista

Is it re-installation of complete network or you are just trying to add Vista computer to the network?

Is it a complete re-installation then you can reset the router to factory default settings and then try to reconfigure it.

You can run Cisco connect software on the main computer or you can also reinstall it manually,

Read how to reconfigure router manually,

If you trying to connect Wireless Vista computer to the network then you can simply search for the WiFi and then join the wireless network on Windows Vista computer

Help!!!!!!!!!!!

Leave the user name blank and enter the password admin ( admin once only ).

Try this.
If that doesn't work then search for the Cisco connect software on your main computer. You might have installed the cisco connect software on your main computer while installing your router.
If it is windows computer then cisco connect software might be under All Programs.
If is a MAC computer then cisco connect might be under Applications.

Open cisco connect software.
Click on router settings. You will see the router name and password. If you click on Advanced settings, it will open the setup page.

If nothing is working then you will need to reset the router and reconfigure it.
Remember once you reset the router, you will need to reconfigure it from the scratch.

I need to find the WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK passphrase for my cisco router

If you cannot remember your your pass phrase your only option is to reset the router back to factory setting sand reconfigure it.

On the back next to the WAN port is the reset button. Power off the router, press and hold the button, power on the router and continue to hold the reset button for at least 5 seconds. Allow th router to reboot and you should be able to access the router to configure using 192.168.1.1 with no loging ID and a password of admin
Good luck

Forgotten password for wireless router. How do I reset? My husband needs to connect his Kindle into our secure wireless network but we cannot find our password nor remember it.

You can reset your router using a button available behind the router.

But this will reset all the settings to factory settings and your security settings will be lost, and you need to reconfigure for security settings.
