Question about LaCie Big Disk Extreme with Triple Interface - hard drive - 1 TB

Computer does not instal Lacie Big Disk

My computer is: Asus Striker Extreme motherboard with 6 Gb Gskill ram, 1 Tb internal HDD Pentium D 3.4 Ghz CPU, 2 x Nvidia 8800 GTX graphics cards (running in SLI) and a Sound blaster X-Fi sound card. It has recently been rebuilt professionaly and I wish to re instal my Big Disk external drive. I have mislaid (euphemism for lost) the installation instructions. I checked the computer properties which state the drivers for the other devices (Mass storage controller etc) are not installed. I have tried to install these from the Asus motherboard DVD but the computer cannot find them.
I am a Brit living in the interior of Oman (read desert) and use the computer for high end gaming as there is little else to do here but chase camels. Please help.

Did you format the drive using Disk Utility? Open "disk utility" from the dock icon or applications/utilities folder. Click the drive name on the left side of the disk utility window. click the "partition" tab in the window, next click the "options" tab and select GUID Partition scheme, or any Mac compatible scheme, read each explanation of the schemes. Name and resize your partitions, click apply. This is how it works running . I hope this helps you

How do I install a drive on Windows Vista, XP or 2000?

    Some
LaCie drives now ship with the LaCie Setup Assistant installed. The
LaCie Setup Assistant will automatically prepare your LaCie hard drive
for use on your system. For instructions on the LaCie Setup Assistant
please see our FAQ here. If
the LaCie Setup Assistant is not provided on the drive, depending on
the model, your hard drive is formatted Mac Extended (HFS+), Windows
    FAT32 or Windows NTFS.

  • If the drive is formatted NTFS it is ready for use with Windows Vista, XP or 2000.

  • If
the drive is formatted FAT32 it can be used with Windows Vista, XP or
2000 but we recommend reformatting it NTFS. Keep the drive in the FAT32
format ONLY if you are moving it between a Mac and a PC or you will be
connecting to a computer with Windows Me or 98SE. Note: There is a maximum 4gb file size limit with Fat32. Note:
Not all LaCie drives are compatible with Windows 98SE or Me. If you are
unsure if your drive is supported, please check the minimum system
requirements in the LaCie product manual.

  • If the drive is
formatted Mac Extended, you will need to format the drive before use.
To determine the format of the drive, open My Computer, right-click on
the drive icon and select Properties. Select the General Tab and look
    for “File System”.
  • Microsoft Vista users: “My Computer”
has changed to “Computer”. Access “Computer” where these instructions
call for “My Computer”. There are only minor changes with Vista and
they are noted in the instructions.

To Format or Partition the Drive
NOTE: Formatting or partitioning the drive will erase all data on the drive.
At this point your drive should be connected, your computer booted and logged on as Administrator (if possible).

    1. Right
click on My Computer and select Manage. If My Computer is not available
on the desktop it will be listed under the Start Menu.

    2. Locate the Storage Folder, open it if necessary and double click on Disk Management.

    3. If
the Initialize and Convert Disk Wizard (Write Signature Wizard in
Windows 2000) opens, close it and use the following instructions to
      initialize.

    4. The drive should show in the lower section of the Computer Management window.

      • Note:
If the Computer Management window does not appear as in these
instructions, go to View and set Top to “Disk List” and Bottom to
        “Graphical View”.

    5. The Disk information in the left box should either say “Unknown” or “Online”.

      • If
the Disk information in the left box shows as “Unknown”, right-click in
the box and select “Initialize Disk”. The Disk should now show as
        Online,

    6. The Initialize Disk window will appear. The disk should have a check. Click OK.

      • Vista
will give you additional choices. Leave MRB (Master Boot Record)
selected. You only need to select GPT if you are formatting a 2TB or
        larger drive.

    7. With
the Disk showing as Online, right-click on the unallocated space of the
disk in the right box and select New Partition (“Create Partition” in
Windows 2000 and “New Simple Volume” in Vista).

      • Note: If the partition has already been formatted right-click and select Format if you wish to reformat the partition.

    8. The New Partition Wizard will open. (New Simple Volume Wizard in Vista). Select Next.

    9. Select Primary partition for the partition type. Select Next.

    10. Specify the partition size. The Partition size in MB should be the same as the Maximum Disk space in MB. Select Next

    11. Assign
a drive letter or Path. Normally you will use the default Drive letter
the Wizard has assigned for the partition. Select Next.

    12. Format Partition-

      • File system: Choose NTFS.

      • Note: Windows Vista, XP and 2000 are not able to create FAT32
partitions larger than 32GB. You must create multiple 32GB partitions
        if you use FAT32 format.

      • Leave allocation unit size as Default for NTFS.

      • Volume label will be the name of the partition in My Computer.

      • Select Perform a quick format. If this is not selected, the format process can take a long time.

        • Note: If quick format does not work successfully you will need to do a full format.

    13. Select Next and then Finish. The partition will show as initializing.
(If quick format was not selected, this can take quite a while to
complete). When completed, the partition will have a drive letter, show
as “Healthy” and NTFS and will be listed in the top section of the
      Computer Management window.

    14. The partition should now be available in My Computer and ready to use.

The external hard drive does not need any additional controller/driver on Windows, if that does not work, itis either faulty, or Windows is damaged and must be reinstalled.

    Hi there,

if the Lacie is connected throught USB , you do not need any driver to install the disk on Windows, the system is supposed to load drivers automatically.

If the device is not detected, or not working on USB, try first unplugging computer power cable for ten minutes.

Test also the Disk on a different connection.

If the Lacie is connected using ethernet or wireless, then you may need to download the wireless software.

We bought Sims3 for PC but now someone tell me that we must have bought the Sims and Sims2 then it can be install on the PC. Is that true and if so where can we get install disk to go on.

Hi. Welcome to Fixya!
You don't need to install Sims 1 and Sims 2 to be able to install Sims 3 to your computer. For the expansion packs and stuff packs for Sims 3 you need to install first Sims 3 base game for it to work on your computer. However your computer must have the system requirements of Sims 3 to be able to run it properly. Here is the system requirements for Sims 3 :
FOR WINDOWS XP

* Windows XP (Service Pack 2)
* 2.0 GHz P4 processor or equivalent
* 1 GB RAM
* At least 6.5 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB additional space for custom content
* 128 MB Video Card with support for Pixel Shader 2.0

FOR WINDOWS VISTA
* Windows Vista (Service Pack 1)
* 2.4 GHz P4 processor or equivalent
* 1.5 GB RAM
* At least 6.5 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB additional space for custom content
* 128 MB Video Card with support for Pixel Shader 2.0

For computers using built-in graphics chipsets, the game requires at least:
* Intel Integrated Chipset, GMA X3000 or above.
* 2.6 GHz Pentium D CPU, or 1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo, or equivalent
* 0.5 GB additional RAM

I have a 1TB LaCie 2Big Quadra. It has 2 500GB and runs on RAID 1. I replaced both 500 GB LaCie drives with 1.5 TB LaCie drives, but my computer only recognizes the original 500 GB. I formatted both...

I have the same problem too on my 2big form lacie . If I use 2x 1,5 tera disk in "fast mode" or in "big mode" my disk manager only shows 746 gigs available (it should be at least 2,5 terra).
If I use "safe mode" so my system can see 1,3 tera available, wich is normal for a raid mirror configuration.
I hope to find a solution quickly.
