Well it's not definite that microsoft updates will have the right driver and if they do it probably will not be the most up to date. I would try automatic driver update software. It will quickly scan your pc and tell you which driver updates are available for all of your system devices. Go to http://www.pcdriverupdate.com they have a free scan you can use. I recommend doing regular scans with this software, at least once a month to make sure all of your drivers are up to date. Keeping them updated will ensure your pc runs at it's optimum capability, being more stable and performing at it's peak.

I hope it helps

Simple!
do a "microsoft update"(top of all programs list)
chose "custom"for your scan, then on left of updates list, look for "hardware",your correct drivers WILL be there!!
also check "optional"to see if you missed anything!!

no-hassel instalation, and you should have "sounds"

enjoy!!

Audio is intergrated in most of the programs on a Windows XP-based laptop computer, especially those that play video games and movies. If the audio is not functioning properly, you need to troubleshoot the issue. Typically, this is a quick process that requires only a few different system checks to correct the problem.

1. Double-click the speaker icon in the lower right corner of the desktop. A window appears with all of the audio features. Make sure none of these are muted (uncheck the "Mute" box if you find some are), then turn up the audio on the different features. This ensures the audio is not turned down so you are unable to hear it.

2. Look to see if you have any headsets connected to the laptop. If there is something connected to the "Line Out" port of the laptop, no audio is going to play through the systems speakers.

3. Check that you have the laptop speakers selected as the device creating the audio for the Windows XP laptop. Click "Start," "Control Panel," then "Sound." Make sure the laptop speakers are selected (if not, click the audio playback pull-down menu and choose the laptop speakers), then click "Apply."

4. Download the drivers for the Windows XP laptop. If the drivers have been removed from the system, the computer is unable to produce any audio. Navigate to the laptop's manufacturing site, then choose "Support," "Downloads and Drivers," then enter in the model number of your computer, select "Windows XP" as the operating system, then choose the "Audio Driver" download. Once the drivers have finished downloading, double-click the file, follow the installation prompts of the driver wizard and click "Install" to install the driver. Once complete the laptop computer is ready to begin playing audio again.

I hope you find it very helpful. Best regards.

Tip

Midi files - no sound. Windows XP

If other formats of audio files like MP3 - Wav etc. can be played on the computer, but not MIDI files:

1. Open the "Controle panel".
2. Open "Sounds".
3. Under Tab - Volume - activate "Advanced".
4. If the "SW Synth" is Muted - remove the "V" in the box.
5 If the volume is set to minimum - increase the Volume.

You should nov be able to play Midifiles - with sound.
(above routine is for Windows XP)

Enjoy your music !!!!!

Hi natutekaalla,

Welcome to FixYa! How are you doing?
You did not specify what Operating System you are using, whether Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7.
When did the problem start? Were you able to hear sound before?
  • Please check if the sound is not set to mute.

  • Try to reinstall the audio driver. You can re-install the audio driver by using the drivers disc that came with your computer or you can download it from the ff:

  1. If you are using Windows XP, you can download the audio driver here: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&releaseid=R215598&SystemID=LAT_2100&servicetag=&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=20480&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=1&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=0&libid=3&typeid=-1&dateid=-1&formatid=-1&source=-1&fileid=305909
  2. If you are using Windows Vista, you can download the audio driver here: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&releaseid=R215596&SystemID=LAT_2100&servicetag=&os=WLH&osl=en&deviceid=20480&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=1&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=0&libid=3&typeid=-1&dateid=-1&formatid=-1&source=-1&fileid=305907
  3. If you are using Windows 7, you can download the audio driver here: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&releaseid=R274071&SystemID=LAT_2100&servicetag=&os=W732&osl=en&deviceid=20480&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=1&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=0&libid=3&typeid=-1&dateid=-1&formatid=-1&source=-1&fileid=404527

Hope that helps. Thank you for using FixYa.

You'll have to provide me with the exact video card and audio device in your computer.
On XP, Start, Run, dxdiag.
This will provide you with a detailed synopsis of what hardware your computer has.
Get the model number of the video card and of the audio device and I'll find drivers for you.

You need to download the audio driver from the Compaq/HP WEB support/download page. Make sure you select your model laptop and the XP or Vista Windows version of the drivers you require and install them. Click on this link to download the drivers: -

Sounds like the HAL.DLL problem that I have with my Aspire One.
Try booting off a genuine Windows XP disc and choosing the 'recovery console' option. At the command line, type 'CHKDSK C:' and press Enter. If you're lucky, that will do the trick.
