Question about Sony KDF-E60A20 60 in. LCD HDTV

Water behind LCD Screen

Our 2yo sprayed water on the screen to "clean" it and now the water is puddled behind the screen. It is like the old oil stickers behind the screen - can see the picture fine through it and if you press it the water moves around it seems fine after you move it out of the way. However, I cannot get the water out. I tried a hair dryer, but it just moves the water around. HELP!!!! This tv is less than two months old.

Arpi - thank you so much. I really appreciate the help. The hair dryer wasn't doing anything and I was starting to think my brand new TV was shot. Please send me the service manual. My email is NYmartinez6@bellsouth.net. A couple of questions though. I read that you have to be very careful taking it apart because of dust getting into the LCD environment and subsequently ruining the picture anyway. Do you know if the techs use some special method to avoid exposing it to dust or do they just take it apart, clean it and put it back together fine? The dust issues seemed to apply to LCD laptop monitors, so it may be different for this situation. Either way, thanks again for the solution. I'll take a look at the service manual and I already have a call in to the Sony service.

    Many thanks,
    Greg

Is there a process known to man that cleans windex streaks off an lcd screen?

How to Clean an LCD Screen
So, first of all, let's decide what we don't use to clean it:
Anything containing bleach or ammonia, such as Windex. That will react with the plastic and make the plastic screen become cloudy and discolored.
Anything sharp, pointy or abrasive.
Your easiest choice is one of those LCD cleaning solutions they sell in places where they sell computers. But they're expensive, and why bother when you can make your own solution for next to nothing?

What you'll need:
Distilled water (available at your supermarket; tap water leaves streaks and minerals).
White vinegar (you may substitute isopropyl alcohol; either way, make sure these substances are diluted before they come near your screen).
A clean, soft cloth (never use any kind of paper product).
A spray bottle.

Directions:
In the spray bottle, mix the distilled water and alcohol/vinegar, in a 1:1 ratio.
Turn off the LCD display.
Spray the mixture onto the cloth, never directly onto the screen.
Wipe gently - oh, so gently - from top to bottom. Do it horizontally, too, if you think that leaves a cleaner result.
Let the screen dry before turning it back on.

Hands Off!
Fingers leave dirt and oil smudges that must be cleaned off. Also, every time you touch the screen you risk doing damage to those tiny creatures inside that hold the colored flashlights. Keep your fingers to yourself.

Can I clean my ViewSonic LCD Monitor (VE510b) with water (using cloth)? Please tell me easy procedure of cleaning my ViewSonic LCD Monitor screen. email: amdesh1@gmail.com

Hi

Time Required:
Cleaning a flat screen (LCD) monitor usually takes less than 5 minutes Here's How:
  1. Turn off the monitor. If the screen is dark, it will be easier to see the areas that are dirty or oily.
  2. Use a dry, soft cloth and very gently wipe the screen. A great choice would be the microfiber type of cloth used to clean eyeglasses.
See Tip #1 below for kinds of cloths to avoid.
  3. If the dry cloth did not completely remove the dirt or oil, do not press harder in an attempt to scrub it off.
Pushing directly on the LCD screen can often cause pixels to burn out.
  4. If necessary, dampen the cloth with distilled water or with an equal ratio of distilled water to white vinegar.
Many companies also sell small spray bottles of special cleaner for flat screen monitors but the vinegar mixture is usually just as effective.
See Tip #2 below for products to avoid.
  5. The plastic edge that surrounds the screen can be cleaned with any multipurpose cleaner but take care to avoid contact with the screen itself.
Tips:
  1. Avoid using paper towels, toilet paper, tissue paper, or something like your shirt to wipe the LCD screen. These non-ultrasoft materials can scratch the screen.
  2. Avoid cleaning products that contain ammonia, ethyl alcohol, acetone, toluene, ethyl acid, or methyl chloride. These chemicals can react with the materials that the LCD screen is made of which could yellow the screen or cause other kinds of damage.
  3. Never spray liquid directly on the LCD screen or it could run inside the monitor and cause damage.

How do i clean the tv screen on my flat screen tv

Get a soft fine cotton cloth, dry and clean. Never use paper towels or tissues or even a bath towel as these will scratch the screen. Get some distilled water. You can buy distilled water at the grocery store. Get a clean spray bottle with a very fine spray and fill the bottle with the distilled water. Now add just a little isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol). Spray the liquid on the cloth and swipe from top to bottom on the screen until the screen is cleaned. Distilled water is better than tap water because it is more pure with minerals removed which would scratch the screen. The alcohol acts as a solvent to help remove dust and deposits. Never touch the screen with your fingers as they have oils which will leave a film on the screen. Never use a lot of alcohol. You want mostly water with just a hint of the rubbing alcohol mixed in.

What do i use to clean the monitor screen?

You don't have to turn the monitor off before cleaning it, but this will help you see the smudges and smears. If your screen is merely dusty, you can wipe gently with a soft, cotton cloth or try a can of compressed air. But if your screen is downright grungy, you might have to resort to some tougher tactics.

Though some people recommend using Windex, ethyl alcohol and ammonia-based cleaners can yellow your flat-screen or laptop monitor over time, so it is best to avoid such products. You can find an array of commercial products specifically designed to clean LCD screens, but you may prefer to just head to your kitchen and mix up your own solution. Plain old water can do the trick, or you can concoct a solution of vinegar and water or isopropyl alcohol and water.

Always use a soft cotton cloth, rather than a rag or paper towel to wipe the screen. Some people recommend special electrostatic cloths, like those used to clean eyeglasses treated with anti-glare finish, or even dryer sheets. Apply the cleaning solution to your cloth rather than directly to the screen and wipe in one direction -- from the top of the screen to the bottom.

One final word of warning, never touch or press on your LCD screen with your fingers as this can cause the pixels to burn out.

Good luck and do rate the solution plz

It fell in sea water puddle and now LCD screen won't work

If you tried turning it on before the water finally evaporated (a week or more), you might have shorted out the screen. Also, after the water evaporates, there is the problem of the salt residue left behind inside the camera. Get a repair estimate to help you decide if it's worth the repair.

Cleaning lcd screen

It is recommended to use a simple alcohol solution to clean an LCD screen. This solution is made up of 1 part distilled water and 1 part 50% isopropyl alcohol. Be warned that isopropyl alcohol is flammable.
50% isopropyl alcohol is very common. If you find 70%, 91%, or 99% isopropyl alcohol, adjust the formula to use less alcohol and more distilled water.
By mixing these two in a bottle, you will produce a model cleaning solution. Remember not to use tap water -- only use distilled water.
Do NOT use tissues/Kleenex to wipe your screen. That is as ineffective, because they will leave little tissue partiels all over your screen . Try and find some microfibre cloth to clean your screen. Cloths that come along with prescribed glasses are usually good.
You may want to clean the rest of the actual screen before moving onto the LCD part. First dampen the cloth with the solution. You should never spray any sort of liquid directly onto the screen. Wipe the screen gently from top to bottom and wait for it to dry.
Be careful not to let the cleaning solution leak into the sides of the monitor. Also, be certain that you do not press hard on the LCD screen. You can permanently damage an LCD screen by pressing on it too hard.
DUST:
If there is just dust on your screen, there is no need to fully clean it. To remove dust all that must be done is to wipe it away with a microfiber cloth. Simply wipe your screen from end to end gently with the cloth.
