Replace the non functioning internal optical drive, it's easy and cheap, then use it.

We need reinstall xp dell optiflex 210 l

You will either need the dell restore CD or Windows XP CD.

To perform a clean installation of Windows XP, follow these steps:
  1. Back up all important information before you perform a clean installation of Windows XP. Save the backup to an external location, such as a CD or external hard disk.
  2. Start your computer from the Windows XP CD. To do this, insert the Windows XP CD into your CD drive or DVD drive, and then restart your computer.

Note To boot from your Windows XP CD, the BIOS settings on your computer must be configured to do this.
  3. When you see the "Press any key to boot from CD" message, press any key to start the computer from the Windows XP CD.
  4. At the Welcome to Setup screen, press ENTER to start Windows XP Setup.
  5. Read the Microsoft Software License Terms, and then press F8.
  6. Follow the instructions on the screen to select and format a partition where you want to install Windows XP.
  7. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the Windows XP Setup.

Is it possible to fix a notebook that has a message with load needed dlls for kernel. It's for a notebook. I've looked it up and it tells me to put the cd in and restore it. I have a notebook and...

Hi.

Yes it is possible to fix the netbook. All you need to do is reinstall the operating system. You will have to get hold of an external DVD/CD drive or install Windows through a USB drive.

With a DVD/CD drive all you need is the XP installation CD. Connect the drive to the power outlet and then plug the USB lead to the computer. turn the netbook on and hit the F12 key or the key it tells you for "Boot Options". Select the "USB CD-ROM" device and follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall the operating system.
If you haven't got an XP installation CD then you'll have to purchase one.

You can also install XP from a USB flash drive. Click on the link I have provided below for an in-depth explanation for how to install Windows XP from a USB flash drive>>>

If you decide to install using the USB flash drive then to get the system to boot from the USB flash drive just follow the same instructions for the DVD/CD drive.

Hope this helps and please post back if there is anything else.

Regards.

1. To access boot options on this netbook press 0 on startup. This gives options to start from usb drive or external cd.
2. If you have an external cdrom, then use this with any xp home cd to attempt repair/ repair installation/ re-installation.
3. unetbootin allows you to create a bootable usb from a cd image (or you could use it to make yourself a linux netbook).

You are going to need an external CD-Rom to fix that problem, there is no way around it. Some people have used their original os CD from asus to make a Thumb drive solution that emulates a CD, but you first need a CD to do this. Try shopping at Geeks.com for the external drive, or try using a spare cd or dvd rom with their external cable kit.

I use a cable like this for my external CD or Hard drive hookups.

Dell dimension b110 not reading cd drive

Do you have any device drivers loaded on your system that may be interfering? Such as ANYDVD or some other app? Does this happen with data DVD's as well as movies?

Have you tried starting your DVD player application and then inserting the disk into the drive?

One thng you may want to try is going into device manager and deleting all IDE devices, then deleting the IDE controllers themselves and rebooting. This should allow Windows XP (I assume it is XP) to re-recognize and re-initialize the hardware. Then you may want to try re-installing the motherboard chipset drivers (there should be a driver disk that came with your machine, hopefully) just to make sure they are all in good shape.

Disk drive does not recognize or read a disk

you could try removing the drivers from your device manager by going through contol panel or by right-clicking on My Computer and then on the hardware tab. you would find it under cd/dvd rom drives.Just right click and click on uninstall. Then if you dont have your driver disk you might be able to download it from softpedia.com. If you have installed drivers more than once you might be able to roll-back drivers but the best bet would be to just uninstall and re-install the drivers.

Hope this helps

DVD drive cannot recognize DVD disk, but can read other CDs

I'm assuming you have tried a different dvd also and no joy, but it may need a lens clean or it is unable to read dvd anymore as the tracks are closer together than a cd and the alignment of the laser is faulty. Notebook roms are replaceable but only mainly from your notebook manufacturer. You could also use an external dvd writer via usb, although this then doesn't make your notebook as portable, if you need to read a dvd disc.
