    Windows says installing device driver.

I let it run it's own installer but it keep asking for CD which I say cancel.

It then says finish and I am able to use the printer and scanner in fact all accessories but a printer is installed copy 1 or 2 or 3 as the default printer. Once I unplug it does the same thing again.

Have you setup a roaming profile in Vista? That would clear things up. But, I will look into a recipe I can send to you so you can do this unless you are familiar with roaming profiles. Just give me a bit of time.

One of the kids was here from College and had to spend three days cleaning the laptop of viruses. She just headed back. I'll have to do it all over again on Spring Break. Next laptop she buys herself.

I'll look forward to solving this problem for you.

    (Question 2)
And if so, do you let it run its own installer also?
    (Question 3)
What is it you have done at this point?)

Sounds like Vista did what it was designed to do on paper. I was a bit baffled as Vista is smart enough to recognize when you are roaming.

Roaming was designed for the mobile worker who can travel among a network with wireless access points and switch off from one access point to another. In its early concept 'roaming' made sense for the phrase and it has stuck. The whole ideal was to have it seamless, meaning no action needed from you the user or IT to keep you, your profile working. As new devices come within range of your access, privileged card (Credentials) allowed, they would automatically become available, ie. printers. In the home area network, you as an Administrator have elevated privileges. (Although, this can get you into trouble if you poke around and change settings.) The issue with your printer, I don't see this as a problem but a very valid concern and a major annoyance. We see these all the time with the Windows Operating System.

Thanks for playing your hunch and saving us both the time to discover it in the long run.You have good intuition and I would encourage you to trust it.

If you look under C: there is a folder called Users. Here you will find your personal folder and under this is the Roaming folder. All of the entries and actions of Vista are 'transparent' to you (and should be) where in the past it meant IT had to create these profiles for roaming and users would poke around and set thing on tilt. That was what I was looking to discover that you then dismissed from my concerns. That there was a problem, that you had set a control to manual.

With Roaming working correctly you should be able to take your laptop to work, Starbucks and return home without having to interact with any access controls other than logging in and providing a password. Your system should adjust and adapt automatically. This is 'Roaming' in theory. Hopefully it will fully mature as designed. Eventually, you should be able to travel by car and have wireless access the Internet by jumping off the nearest wireless card to you, and then the nearest card to that and continually hop by meshing will all other mobile devices around and in use. This will all occur in a reserved band of the device and heavily encrypted. This is called Wireless Mesh and what we will all be using late next year. When wireless mesh is fully working and mature Roaming will reach its idealistic goal setup 10 years or so ago.

The author Arthur C. Clark envisioned all this in a SciFi novel in the late 1960s.

Come back here to any of us when you need a hunch verified or you are concerned you may be about to do something you may regret, concerning your system. Or, if you just need plain help with your hardware. I focus on printers a lot and always have. I have four personal computers and two laptops. All these are running various versions of Windows and Linux. If you don't hear from anyone shortly you may always call on me. When I can't be of immediate assistance I can and will ask a colleague to come in and confer with you on my behalf.

Its been a pleasure to assist you.

    Thanks for using FixYa, regards,

My 6530 works OK as a copier but not as a printer or as a scanner. I suspect that the USB interface is defective.

It is could be a software related problem. Software called drivers are needed to run the printer. The drivers for your printer can be found on the CD disk that came with your printer. They can also be downloaded from the manufactures website, click their downloads/support button and select your model of printer. Download and install the drivers for your specific model of printer and for your specific version of Windows.

Take care!

DYMO LabelWriter 400 Turbo Installed but gives error message when sending prints

First of all, on Dymos you need to use original Dymo roll,.

Dymo rolls have a tag at the back, non original ones does not have it.

Before reinstalling driver you also need to run the dymo uninstaller utility that you find at Dymo website.

I will post the links for download.

I cannot launch lexmark productivity studio nor can I get my X2650 to scan. It will print and copy

Hi.

If you cannot start the Lexmark productivity studio, then the software may need reinstalling.

Reinstall the software using printer disk, or download from Lexmark website.

Also test using a replacement USB cable. A too long or defective USB data cable may cause the AIO not scanning.

If you have misplaced printer disk, follow instructions on link below to download drivers:

Cannot print

Try first unplugging power cord, pulling out cartridges, and putting them back.

Restart the computer.

Ensure you removed the cellotape strip from new cartridges, and that cartridges are properly installed.

Ensure that the printer is set as default printer in Windows.

Print a test page from control panel>>printers>>properties.

If all the above does not work, try a replacement USB cable, just in case, then proceed reinstalling the driver software. Follow the method below to reinstall software:

To reinstall the software you can use the disk that came with the printer, or download the driver software:

Click here:Official Lexmark Drivers and Software

A web page will open, follow instructions, select model, select operative system etc., and click on download .
Chose to download the file in my documents when asked.
Afterdownloading, findthe file, double click on the file , then if you getintroubles, followthe instructions below to reset and reinstall drivers:

  • Unplug printer USB.
  • Go to control panel >> installed printers in Windows and remove (delete ) any installed printer from printer list.

Won't work

Leave the printer on but unplug the power cord and USB cable. Wait 30 seconds and plug printer back in. Once it has finished coming on and initializing reconnect the USB cable. Try to print - up and working?

Assuming that the issue is software first uninstall the current drivers and then you can download and reinstall from the hp website. Just select your OS and then pick the most recent full feature software and drivers.

My Brother copier printer DCP-IIOC, will copy but won't print, in fact the computer won't recognise the printer, the usb cable is fine, what is wrong or can you help me please?

Try this :

First check that is defined as default printer in 'installed printer' in Windows, and that you are not sending documents in printout to another non connected printer present in Windows under 'installed printers'.

Unplug completely computer from power socket and from USB for 10 minutes, to get rid of electrostatic problems on USB. Plug everything back and restart.

Check the USB cable, replace USB cable with a different one to check if it was the cable.

Uninstall printer from 'installed printers' in Windows (delete). Disconnect printer from USB, reinstall printer from printer software CD or downloaded driver. Connect printer to usb only after installing, or when explicitly required by software, this is important

Must Reinstall to Print

Most USB printers need to have the printer driver installed before you connect the printer to the computer, did you install the printer this way?

Also, check and see if it is the default printer.

If those do not work:

1) Turn off the Terminate and Stay Resident programs MSCONFIG in VISTA.
2) Disable HP device discovery service.
3) Uninstall the All-In-One software.
4) Turn off firewall and antivirus.
5) Reinstall the latest software for the All-In-One.
Hope this helps.

Please let me know how this works for you.
