    This is happening to me as well! With two different versions of ratchet and clank as I returned the game thinking it might be a bad disk or something... any ideas guys?

    My ps3 is saving other things fine, and is literally empty (apart from 2 old psone games and fallout3 save file.... NOT 80g)

    I'm having the same problem with Ratchet and Clank. The message that pops up says that my HDD is full. I literally just took my PS3 out of the box. I haven't downloaded anything from the network. Ratchet and Clank is the first game I inserted. I'm really, really hoping that this isn't a problem with the console. If I find out anything, I'll post again.

Hi! I just read an article that said some copies of Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction has a glitch. You actually have too much free space on your drive, as strange as that may sound. The glitch causes the disc to read the HDD as full when there is a certain amount of free space on it. Per the article:

"We recently discovered a bug on the US version of Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction that some of you may encounter the first time you boot the game," said Insomniac Games community manager James Stevenson to Shacknews. "With specific amounts of free space on your drive, you may see a screen that tells you [you] have insufficient space to create game data even though there is plenty of free space on your drive. When this occurs, either delete or add about 500MB of data to your hard drive and the problem will go away," Stevenson said.

So play a few other games, download some games from the network or some music from CDs. A pain, yes, but it's better than your system being screwed.

We have just purchased ratchet and clank - tools of destruction. It is telling us that our HDD has insufficient space and we need 419mb to install it. We have a 160gb PS3 and according to system...

HI there. This is a PS3 bug and the only solution available was to format the PS3.

So i would recommend you to back up your save files and then go to system settings and restore hard disk to default.

Once done, update your PS3 to the latest firmware, return your save files and then try to install Ratchet and Clank Tools of Destruction.

Please rate and comment, thank you.

Need 419 mb space wen i brought console new

Maybe it wasn't brand new after all.

You can clear up the old user data by deleting it from the GAME menu. Check Game Data Folder.

If there are games that you've never played before or games that you aren't going to play anymore go ahead and delete the files.

Best of luck!

I also have that problem

For those of us eager to get some platforming action joy with Insomniac Games' latest next-gen masterpiece on the Sony PlayStation 3, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, you may have encountered a glitch that stops the fun dead in its tracks. Thankfully, a workaround has been provided by none other than Insomniac Games itself through the company's own community manager James Stevenson.

So what causes the video gaming happy to suddenly cease and desist? James Stevenson explains that like Resistance: Fall of Man, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction needs to install a few files into your hard drive for the game to actually run. Here's where things start getting a little dicey: even though you've got loads of free space on your hard drive, the game could read your hard drive as full, and therefore refuse to install. Ouch.

What's the workaround, then? It's really a simple procedure. James advises that to make the problem go away, all players need to do is either free up 500 megabytes' worth of space, or download 500 megabytes worth of data from the PlayStation Network Store. Yes, we know, it's weird, having to fill up your hard drive just so a game can detect all the loads of free space available, but if it lets us play something as good as Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, then fill up we must.

Game says not enough HDD space but there is 64 GB of space.

I downloaded a SoulCalibur IV demo and tried running Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction again and it allowed me to continue on to the main menu this time.

Ratchet and clank will not play on my ps3

Get a music CD and put it in the machine, then press the triangle and select import. You may have to use more than one CD to get it to work. There are some files missing that are needed for Ratchet & Clank which are on music CD's.

It worked for me.

Brand new PS3 80GB - says I don't have enough HDD space!!!

this is a known big in the game , i listed the report below

We have identified a data loading issue with PS3 and Ratchet & Clank Tools of Destruction, which may affect users who boot the game up for the first time.

During the pre-game set-up procedure, game data is automatically saved to the PS3 HDD. It has been found that, on occasion, this data fails to copy to the HDD, with an on-scree message claiming that there is insufficient space to do so - despite the fact that there is in fact enough free space on the drive.

ACTION: For every 4GB of HDD space, there is a 540MB range that will cause the game to display a message indicating that there is insufficient space to create game data. This message will therefore occur when the following amount of free space is on the HDD:

- 4010-4550MB;
- 8010-8550MB;
- 12010-12550MB;
- at every subsequent 4GB interval (i.e 16010-16550MB, etc)

If the PS3 HDD is within any of these ranges when booting without game data created, this message will appear. After game data is created, this will never appear, so if a user doesnt encounter it at first, they never will. Any users who do receive this message will need to either delete data from or save data to the HDD, so that the amount of free space no longer lies within the range detailed above

Ratchet and clank future: tools of destruction game doesnt play

I have read through some forums for you, and it appears that there is a bug that reads your disk as full even if it is not. The fix is to add at least 500MB of game data to your harddrive, then it will work. I think the bug was on the american version of the game. It read an almost empty harddrive as full.

I hope this helps
