Well, just buy the CR2 lithium batteries. I buy Panasonic brand CR2 lithium (it takes two). They only cost $5 for a pair.

Pentax me super shutter won't open. won't wind, wont take a picture :(

Have you not used it in a while?

This could be one of two issues:

One, it could be the battteries. The ME super is not a fully mechanical camera like the mx, if the batteries are depleted then the shutter sticks open as it does not know how long to stay open. Turning the selection wheel to 125X usually unsticks it.

Two, the lubricant that pentax used in the 70's and 80's has a very bad tendecy to polymerise and turn sticky and solid. This turns the camera inoperable. Pentax repair service routinely provide cleaning for affected cameras.

Hope this helps, its a great camera

I have a pretty old Pentax 35 mm that has not been used in awhile. The film advance crank is stuck. I put new batteries in it (I don't know if I needed batteries for it to advance and for the shutter to...

Given the age of the camera and the fact that it hasn't been used for a while, it's quite likely the lubricants have dried up, causing the mechanical parts to stick. I'd suggest taking it in to a reputable camera shop for a CLA (Clean-Lube-Adjust), the camera equivalent of tuning up your car.

Pentax MZ50/ZX50 - no photo when shutter is pressed

first make sure the mirror is fully down. if down
take your MZ50 to a camera store and try a different lens. if it does the same thing then your camera needs repaired. flex circuit,
if the different lens works then the lens needs repaired.

Eats batteries like thers no end !

Hello davidpritchie,  As I recall, this was Pentax's way of mating electronics with mechanical cameras and the success rate was quite good. The only problem with the Pentax Super Program was the rather complex electronic circuit board. Your canera could have a short, bad condensers, bad on-off switch, etc. You would need to do a circuit check from batteries to every electronic component using battery power. Wow - really expensive and time-consuming = complete stripdown and repair. The camera is over approximately 30 years old making it a classic. It is no longer in production meaning parts need to be cannabalized from another old non-working Pentax Super Program. The cost of repair would exceed the value of the camera. Look for another good used model or move on to a Pentax DSLR (digital SLR) camera as your tool. Sorry I couldn't give you a better answer on how to fix your problem.

The batteries that this camera takes are either 2 alkaline model LR44, or 2 silver-oxide model G13 batteries. I hope this helps!

Manual Rewind Pentax PZ

Hi Joel,

If your battery is dead, just put in a new battery.

Go into somewhere that is completely dark and open the back of the camera and remove the film.
Or go Costco, WalMart and Kmart and they will do it for free.

Shutter wont fire, or auto focus

This sounds like mirror box motor problem ( see enclosed shot from our workshop ) : this cocks the shutter and controls mirror mechanism and when the drive dosnt work properly ( small nylon gear on the motor goes ) camera will develop the the sort of problems you describe.
Can be repaired but will cost $ 150-200 so it is relatively expensive repair.

Small hair in view finder

That camera has a removable focusing screen. Usually the object(hair) is sitting on top of the focusing screen so the screen has to be dropped down to remove it. There is a clip(frame) accessable from the mirror box that needs to be un-hooked. The frame swings down and usually the screen and a brass shim(s) comes down with it. If your careful and don't actually remove the frame, screen and shim it's pretty straight forward to gently blow the hair out. After removing the hair, gently swing the frame up and clip it back in.If the frame, screen and shim actually fall out it's tricky getting them back in correctly. The screen is also very soft and scratches easily so much care is needed. If you're uncomfortable trying to attempt this then take the MZ50 to a good repair shop. We do this service free and usually while you wait. Other shops may charge you a fee to do it. If the hair is behind the eyepiece then the top cover has to be removed to get the hair out. That is a totally different problem and the camera will need to be repaired. Since the hair dosen't affect the image on the film, you may just want to live with it or have it removed when something else needs to be done when the camera has to be disassembled anyway. Hope this helps.
