Official or custom firmware-how can I tell?what is chipped?
The system setting says 2.00 but the seller said it had 1.5.( I think my son clicked on the option to upgrade to 2.00 official which comes up on the FIFA soccer06 UMD )I think I need to know wether it is official or custom so that I can follow the instructions properly to make the pandora battery and magic memory stick. Also I think the battery is already pandora...can you tell? and do you have to keep making magic things every time they need replacing and for extra memory sticks.? So how come my other son with a 2000 can play iso/cso without changing the memory stick or battery? I am thinking his is custom and the problem one is official/chipped? Am I right? Why would you want official.?

Earlier you have said that you were able to play games from memory stick and since you updated your psp firmware the didn't worked.
First Check your current firmware version . To do this go to
Settings > System Settings > System Information on your PSP . If you your version showing for example 5.00 M33 you are still in Custom firmware. In this case you should able to play the games from memory stick. or else you memory stick is back... or you custom settings are wrong.
If its showing for example 5.00 you are with Sony's official firmware. In this case you wont be able to play the games from memory stick. From here to make your PSP play the games from memory stick you need to Downgrade your PSP. Only way to make this possible is through Pandora Battery and Magic Memory Stick.
So please check your version and let me know so i can guide you further. Also tell me whether your PSP is PHAT or SLIM & LITE..... or check the version of your PSP by removing the battery. Underneth it find some letters and numbers PSP-100x / PSP-200x / PSP-300x
If so, your PSP probably runs on an Official Firmware of Sony...to check if it is an official firmware, just go to your XMB>SYSTEM>SYSTEM INFORMATION, then check your System Software...if your System software has the M33-2 suffix, it is a Custom firmware and it should be able to run games on your Memcard...then if it DOESN'T HAVE a M33 Suffix, therefore, I'm sorry to say that iit is an OFFICIAL Sony Firmware and IT CANNOT run games on your memory card...the only way to fix that is you should have it modded/downgraded and then upgraded to a custom Firmware...
yeah, if your PSP is not Modded and it is running on official firmware of SONY, then you should prolly have it modded or have it made into custom firmware...If you don't know how to check the what firmware version your PSP is running...then here is how: open your PSP, then on the XMB, got SYSTEM SETTINGS then to SYSTEM information. on the top it says SYSTEM SOFTWARE, then check if your firmware version has a m33 suffix...if it doesnt have an m33 at the end, then it is an OFFICIAL firmware so have it modded, my friend...
honestly, you might have screwed yourself over w/ that update. the reason sony updates their firmware is to try to lock hackers out of modding their device. i'm really not sure how long 4.1 has been out or whether it's been hacked or not (i stopped keeping up w/ that since i last updated my custom fw to 3 point 8 or 9, i forgot...). you'll have to check w/ a liable source such as psp.qj.net to see if it has been hacked or not. also there is some new unbricking/downgrading battery called the pandora battery or something like that. i downgraded way before that came out, so i really now nothing about, although i can tell you that it is confirmed that they do work, but beware of fakes, especially on ebay
