First of all you will have to will have to have the operating system disk with yo if you have that then yu will have to search the net for more new softwares. If the softwares you are talking aout are general purpose and do not want to purchase them you could try DOWNLOAD.COM for the softwares you want remember there are always free softwares which are also very useful.
If you want to ask any other question or i somehow did not get your question could you pls post back and i could help further.

Problem getting recovery disk

I understand that you want to reinstall the Operating System on the computer. Select models have the ability to have the operating system reinstalled from a hidden drive built into the computer. To start the system recovery:
  1. Restart the computer
  2. When the eMachines logo appears on the screen, press the Alt and F10 keys repeatedly.
  3. When prompted with a boot screen, hit the Enter key.
  4. After the system recovery program has loaded, follow the prompts to reinstall the operating system.
If the ability to reinstall from the previous method is not available or fails during the recovery, recovery of the operating system will need to be from Recovery Media.
  1. Insert the disk labeled System CD into the computer's disk drive and restart the computer.
  2. When the eMachines logo appears on the screen, press the F12 key repeatedly.
  3. Select either CDROM or DVD as the boot device, this may vary depending on the system.
  4. When prompted for the Recovery CD, remove the System CD and insert the Recovery CD.
  5. Note: If there are multiple Recovery CDs, please insert the first Recovery CD.
  6. After the system recovery program has loaded follow the prompts to reinstall the operating system.

Refer the URL for more information and for the link to order the Recovery media if required.

To start the systemrecovery:

  3. If you are prompted with a Microsoft Windows boot screen, press the Enter key.
  4. After the system recovery application has loaded, follow the prompts to reinstall the Operating System.
If the ability to reinstall from the previous method is not available orfails, recovery of the Operating System will need to be from Recovery Media. Ifyou do not have a set of Recovery Media, you may purchase the set onlinefrom the manufacturer. Note: If your computer does not havean internal optical disc drive, an external optical disc drive will be requiredin order to recover the Operating System using Recovery Media.

  3. Press the CD-ROM drive eject button and insert the disc labeled System CD.

My daughters MSI u100 netbook will not boot up at all. We get a blinking cursor on the upper left and nothing else.

This is always a tough situation because any number ofthings could be wrong. However the best thing to do is to find out what yourcomputer WILL do to isolate the problem.

First step is to TRY TO ENTER THE BIOS. This is the basicinput output system of your computer.. To enter the BIOS restart your computer,as soon as it powers on hit the delete key. This will take you to the BIOS homescreen. From here you can check on various boot options and system componentsto make sure they are functioning correctly. There are a number of settings tocheck but in this situation I would focus on the hard drive and ensure thecomputer is recognizing it's there.

If all goes well with the BIOS check the next step is to GETTHE COMPUTER TO BOOT FROM AN ALTERNATE SOURCE. I strongly suggest using a boot media that you KNOW works such as aflash drive or CD-ROM. This will help narrow the problem to either a hard driveor operating system error. It may also allow you (depending on the media youchoose) to run additional diagnostic programs on the computer which will narrowthe cause of the problem down even further.

These steps should help you isolate the real problem which Isuspect will be your hard drive or operating system (most likely your operatingsystem). If it's the hard drive you willneed to purchase a new one, install the new drive, and reinstall the operatingsystem. If it's the operating system you should simply reinstall the operatingsystem.

Hope this helps.

My acer aspire 5920 is not working. The only screen I'm getting is the acer arcade, when I exit it goes into hybernation mode and then when I switch it back on I get a black screen. If I hold down the...

Hi...gypsydoris...

Start your computer in the Safe Mode.
To start in Safe Mode
Keep tapping F8 while the computer is starting up
When the computer starts select Safe Mode
1. Uninstall any softwear you may have put on the computer before the problem started.
2. Do a complete System Restore: Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore.
This will bring your system back to a time before you installed the softwear or Microsoft installed drivers, etc.
Note: Just be sure to use a date in a darkened box before your trouble start date.
If after you have done the above and your still getting the blue screen of death, the installed drivers, softwear, etc might have corrupted the Operating System.
If that happened then that means either repair or reinstall the operating system.
You will need to do the following:
1...Repairing the Operating System...
A...You will have to have the Operating Dics that came with the computer
It will have your product key number that came with the computer, you can also find it on the tower, or under the bottom of your laptop, or maybe the piece of paper that the CD orginally came in may have the number on it.
You can also download a small program and it will tell you your product key number.
Go to the following webpage to download your FREE key finder.
http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/
B...You will now insert the disc into the CD/DVD player
C...Restart the computer
D...When the window opens that tells you to press "Any" key, you will press any key you want to press.
E...If you do not receive a message that says "press any key to boot from CD", then then the computer is not ready to boot from a cd.
To correct this problem you will have to go into your computer's Bios and change the computer to boot from a CD.
To get into the Bios, shut the computer off, restart, while the computer is starting up keep tapping F1 as the computer is starting up.
When you are in the Bios, select to boot by CD by moving the cursor with the direction arrows on the keyboard.
Once you have selected to boot by cd the exit and restart the computer...the disc is already in the cd/dvd player.
Your system will boot then from the cd.
F...After a minute or less it should ask you if you want to Quit Repair, or Continue.
You will select repair this time, but you may have to come back here and select Install if the repair does not work.
It will ok the agreement document if it asks you too.
Tap F8 on your keyboard to pass it when ready.
It will ask you if you want to Install, Repair, Delete Partition, or Quit.
Select Repair
Inside the box there will be one or two partitions.
Choose the largest partition.
After you have chosen the largest partition, you will then press the "r" key to start the repair
After the repair is complete then you will need to restart your computer.
G...Computer Restart
After the repair is complete, shut the computer down (the computer will shut down a few times during the installation of the operating system
that is normal).
Then restart your computer, when the computer restarts it will have a box to put your product key...put the product key in the box.
Answer any questions.
The computer should start up as if it was a new computer.
You do not need to re-register
You can now remove the disc.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If this fails to clear your your problem then you have a hardware problem.
It could be faulty ram
If you still get the BS (Blue Screen), then you have two choices.
1.Reinstall the entire Operating System and you may have to update some drivers.
This will require you to go back to the start of the repair info.
2..Take your machine in to have the hardware tested.
Keep in mind that if you do a complete reinstall of the Operating System you will lose all the information on the computer, such as pictures, programs, videos, everything you installed will be gone.
Please take time to rate me four thumbs up

When I put a movie in it changes from DVD-RW Drive to CD drive by itself, and often freezes up and I have to shut down completely

It would help if you posted more information on your computer setup (Operating System, Video Card, CPU, RAM, etc.) This will help us to solve your problem.
Try reinstalling the drivers. If that doesn't work, right click "My Computer" and click "Manage", after that go to "Device Manager" and look for items with a "?" next to them.

Gateway lcd monitor

First, narrow down the problem to either the monitor, or to the computer itself. Either try the monitor on a spare or friend's computer, or try a known working monitor on your computer. I'd guess your computer is where the issue is at- it isn't booting the Operating System (MS XP or whatever O/S is present on the hard disk. if the computer is the issue, try booting from the CD which came with the computer, (assuming you have that CD). Or, you could see if some computer tech savvy person has a bootable floppy diskette. Basically a "no-boot" problem, can point to a number of problems: hardware issue (bad hard drive etc.), or an operating system problem.
