Question about Toshiba 50HP81 50 in. Plasma Television

Toshiba 57H82 entire screen flickers. Not clear. mult images

The entire screen is flickering. You see 4 ghost images of people. Sometimes there are 6 to 8 inch wide vertical lines with zig zag edges on them. Auto convergence and manual convergence have been completed. Speakers do not work as well.

Take the television back to where you bought it and maybe they might repair it or swap it. It sounds like a defect in the TV.

BUT! Are you sure that its not just the aerial signal??

Elna machine puckers silk on zig zag stitching, Elna 2007

Yes, because a zig zag stitch is creating a wide stitch and the tension on the thread is going to pull the fabric within the seam together, you can't seam thin fabric with a wide zig zag. It will "tunnel together". If you are using this stitch to neaten a raw edge, then try using the serpentine or three step zig zag where the needle pierces the fabric 3 times in each leg of the zig zag, this will give better results.

How do I make a large buttonhole ..( 1 3/8 inch).. the button doesnt fit on the buttonholer.

You do it using narrow rows of side by side zig zag stitches and bar tacking the ends of the rows. Make a line where you want the hole to be. Set the zig zag stitch width very narrow, whatever is closest to what suits the fabric. Coarse or loose weaves need a wider width, finer ones a narrower width. Experiment on some scraps to get it right. Number of stitches per inch, or stitch length, should be very fine, at least 20 per inch, but not 0. Try a few more experiments on scraps to make sure it looks right. Make a test hole to be sure it is the right size for your buttons.

Stitch a straight line of zig zags down one side of your line, with the edge of the stitching not quite touching your line. Stitch a second row directly on top of the first one.

Repeat on the other side of the line. Ideally you should still be able to just see the line you drew when the rows are done, but not see any bare fabric on either side of the line.

Then move to one end of your rows. Leave the stitch length the same, but change the width to match the width of your two side by side rows. Stitch a bar tack, about the same length as your two rows are wide. If your two rows are 1/8 inch wide, your bar tack should be 1/8 inch long. Do the same at the other end. Make sure the bar tack covers the very end stitches in the rows as it is the anchor that will prevent unravelling. This is exactly what machine buttonhole makers do, but they do it all for you.
Carefully slit between the rows to open the hole. I like to put a drop of Fray Check or something similar on my buttonholes after I cut them open. It makes them much stronger and they will never come out.

I need to know how to do the blind stitch hem

here is a link to great info on which explains this technique with images,

In brief, you need to fold the fabric to be hemmed into a Z shape with the wrong side hem edge at the bottom of the Z.

The Blind stitch is either three straight stitches then a wide zig zag which swings to the left and catches a little bit of the folded edge, or three small zig zags, then one wide zig zag to the left to catch one stitch into the folded edge. The zig zag style has a little more stretch in it so works good on jerseys and knits.
tally_girl_0.gif You need to use the blind hemming foot which helps you to line up the folded edge and keep it at a constant distance from the needle. It will look like this.
tally_girl_53.jpg Turn the little silver screw to move the white plastic guide left or right until you've got just a smidgen of fabric being stitched by the left wide stitch. Always do a practice sample first to get the stitching and guide set right. On most machines you can vary the width of the big zig by adjusting the stitch width dial a little.

You need to adjust the blind hemming foot guide so that the needle is just catching a tiny amount of your folded fabric because this is the stitch which shows on the right side of the fabric when you unfold the Z. So forget trying to hem satin or expensive fabrics this way, a hand sewn stitch will give a much better finish.

Blind hemming works best on a hem which is continuously straight on the same grain line, its not great for a curved hem. So if you've got a tiered skirt or the frill on a bed valance, it is fine as the fabric edge to be hemmed will be a continuous straight length. You can use it on a slightly curved hem for jerseys as the fabric has more give, and patterns will help to disguise the stitching too.

I hope that this helps you to sew your blind hem, 4 thumbs up if so.

The picture has ghost images, not lining up

This sounds like a convergence problem. Use the menu functions to reset your set's convergence. If this is not enough, you may need to replace the convergence board.

When turned on, the screen has waves in it across the top and flickers. It is unreadable. When the TV warms up it seems to be better but is starting to flicker or flash all the time now.

Your Toshiba TV has hyperboard inside and there are few electrolytic capacitors (may be 10) that need to be replaced.
If you are comfortable with soldering parts in PCB then go ahead or ask help to any friend that knows electronics stuff repair.
Let me know further query.

"Flickering" screen

Connect an external monitor to the laptop and power it up, if you see a clear image on an external monitor, this means your video card is OK.

If you see a dim image or flicking image on the LCD screen it means you have a backlight problem.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.
