Hi, I am running a UA - 25 Cakewalk Audio coniting with laptop iam using VST in my laptop win iam cointing with MIDI TO MY SPD 20 PADS on n HP Compaq Laptop. I am having a lot of latetanse when...

I am using a laptop for my music creation and I am thinking about using an External Sound Card connected with a USB cable or getting an Express Card Sound Card. My integrated sound card has a little bit too much latency. Will I have just as much or more latency with the External Sound Card because it is connected with the USB cable or would I be better off with the Express Card Sound Card?
Thanks for any help.

Do all laptops have a sound card

Any laptop sold to home use within the last 10 years will contain a sound card, unless you have one of those 10-30 year old machines that had only a small speaker beeping.

what is the actual problem?

How to connect my HP 6730S Laptop with 7.1speaker

That model just has plain sterio output. The chassis does not accept add-on cards, so you will need to get a USB based sound card to get the better sound.

I don't know if I have a sound card on my laptop or not. How do I find out?

If you hear sound, then you have a sound card. Its integrated into the motherboard since it's a laptop. If you don't have sound, try updating the drivers and also check that you don't have the speakers muted.

I have a Toshiba laptop, an old one. It has no sound. How can I locate the sound card so that I can buy a new one.

You did not provide the model number so I can not be 100% positive, but in my experience I have *never* seen a separate sound card in a laptop. I was a Gold Tech support tech for Dell and to the best of my knowledge, all laptops have the sound circuitry integrated on the motherboard.

What I would recommend is to enter the BIOS setup on the laptop (before Windows starts) and disable the integrated sound.

Then you can buy a USB sound card and plug it in to a USB port. There is quite a variety of choices. Search the Internet and choose the one you like best.

How i can connect creative 5.1 speakers to my hp dv4-1135 laptop,

you are going to need a external sound card.
the creative 5.1 speakers are design for dekstop computer with upgraded sound card.
the laptop or any laptop only produce mono or stereo at best. The building sound card are not design for high quality sound.

IBM T30 Thinkpad sound system failure

Thinkpad is a laptop. Very few laptops have "removable" sound cards. Sorry, but I think that applies to you. After opening many different Thinkpads (and the new Lenovo versions) I have never seen a separate sound card... the sound chip (usually AC97 standard chip, or Intel) is integrated into the motherboard. Newer laptops often have one or two small PCI card slots, but this is usually occupied by WIFI cards. Never seen a PCI sound card for laptop mini PCI slots either. HOWEVER, there is one solution available to you: There are many old PCMCIA cards with full Sound Blaster or AC97 sound, that provide excellent 32-bit digital sound. Search in an old used PC hardware bin, or buy a new one on line by searching for "PCMCIA sound card". Prices are very low. Good luck, let me know if you find one, please.
