A few days ago my yahoo mail pop account stopped sending outgoing mail with attachments. I am using mail on a mac and i keep getting a message that says the yahoo outgoing mail server is not working. I checked the settings and they are correct. And the attachments are just pdfs, 284 kb.

Did you take a microsoft update recently? they patched some holes last week, it may be tripping their security protocal that may be the reason it stoped. Try a restore back to when it started, otherwise it's just a guess, as if you didn't change anything, then someone did it for you like Bill Gates. You could also check your security settings in your browser, that may have been elevated thus preventing the email from working the way you like, only one more thing it could be, is that some email is stuck in your outbox, check that first, by going in and looking and possibly getting into safe mode to revove the emai that may be jamming you up.

Which is ur e-mail client i.e. r u using outlook express or windows mail or windows live mail in order to send & receive emails from ur e-mail Id????
If yes then i think u might not have set the correct address of the SMTP server of ur mail client while configuring windows mail or outlook express or windows live mail on ur notebook-->SMTP server enables u to send e-mails-->anyways follow these steps to set the correct SMTP server address:
open the outlook express or windows mail or windows live mail-->Click on 'tools' option-->then click on the option 'accounts'-->a window will open with a list of accounts or only one account depending on the number of accounts u have configured with outlook express-->select the account from which u can receive mail but cant send one-->if u r not sure which account it is then most likely it would be the default one-->After selecting the particular account click on 'properties'-->properties window will open up-->select the 'servers' tab-->under 'server information' u will find 'outgoing mail(SMTP)'-->fill the proper address of the SMTP-->u will find the proper address of the SMTP server thru google also ensure that u have selected the 'My server requires authentication' checkbox on the 'servers' tab itself-->if u r using gmail then search for the SMTP address of gmail in google & same for the others also such as yahoo, rediff etc.

The incoming and outgoing servers depend upon the internet mail hosts... such as pop.mail.yahoo.com/smtp.mail.yahoo.com etc. so whom ever you using the mail account to receive/send the mail through outlook,mean who ever the host for your internet mail service, you will need to use his POP3/IMAP/HTTP server to receive the mail. thats all ....thanks for using Fixya

make sure your password is correct because this error description states that your password is incorrect
Window Vista also have Outlook Express.. please enter the full info for your email account..
On the E-mail Settings page, enter your email account information as follows:
Your Name Enter your first and last name. E-mail Address Enter your email address. Account Type Select POP3. Incoming mail server Type for your incoming mail server. Outgoing mail server (SMTP) Type for your outgoing mail server. User Name Enter your email address again. Password Enter the password you created for your email account.
After this please check for "Test Account setting"
If everything is working fine, then remove the previous account
And let us know the error message if come up any.

In microsoft outlook, clik on Tools> E-mail accounts>View or change existing e-mail accounts>change > correct outgoing mail server (SMTP) settings and press Test Account Settings.
If you receive a Task error message: ( X Send test e-mail message "Failed" ) perhaps you have been disconnected by your e-mail provider.
