Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

Garage door will not close at the bottom

I would have to make about 6 tries to get the door to close. It would go all the way to the bottom and then come back up again. I pulled the safety latch and let the door go down and now the motor pulls the chain to the top but does not go back down when I push the wall botton or the remote.

The door would go about 4 inches from ground and reverse. Now it has gone all the way up and will not move. Just clicks and holds and no going down. I have checked the sensors and have a bright orange light on one and a bright green on the other.

The little orange light on the motor does blink 5 times. I have unplugged the unit and plugged back in. No results... just door all the way up.

    Any Ideas???

I have a Chamberlain garage door opener. It doesn't quite go down flat on the floor, it leaves about an inch opening. What could be the problem? and how could I fix it?

I have a 1/2 horse Chamberlain garage opener: When closing the door using the remote from driveway the door does not close--it goes about two feet then retreats to fully open and the light blinks about 3 times. When closing the door using the wall switch inside the garage, the door will normally close without a problem. Sometime the door will close using the remote from the driveway if the remote switch is depressed continuously while door is closing. Any idea what my problem is?

Either the safety eyes are misalined or their is something in the way. Have you checked?

Could be the safety "eyes" as suggested (based on the "does not go back down"), but there are also 2 adjustments on the opener. One is to tell it where the floor is, and the other is to tell it how much pressure to reverse at. I would try adjusting the "floor". Since it's hitting the floor and coming back up, that's probably your problem.

Sounds like the safety "eyes", but I'm guessing at this point. My model is older. Try using a kite string from one to the other (but don't block the beam) to align them. Maybe both should be green? If the bright light that lights up the garage when you use the opener flashes, it's reversing for some reason. make sure the door goes up and down easily (no bent track or wheels off). Also, make sure the lock is fully released. You can try also increasing the reversing threashold on the opener (motor housing). Good luck to you.

Garage door opens about 6 then stops. When closing the door reopens to about 6 then stops.

Something could be binding in the track. Try lubricating all the moving parts. Also, the IR sensor at the bottom, which is designed to prevent the door from hitting something, could need to be aimed again. On mine, the IR sending unit at the bottom was burned out. If you have the installation manual, it may have a trouble shooting guide.

Our garage door will not close. it say error 11. what does that mean?

If you constantly hold the button down it will close. However, the sensor circuit for closing the door is either unconnected (check the connection of the two wires going to the sending/receiving units on bottom of garage door for proper connection and aiming) or the circuit itself has gone south.

My garage door opens fine, just wont close with remotes. Lights just flash. I have to use the opener in garage and keep the button pressed in till the door is fully closed or it will reverse.

Clean both safety sensors lens located at the bottom of the garage door frame. Make sure both sensors led lights are lit. If not they are out of alignment and you will have to loosen the wing nut on the sensor that is lit and move it, trying to get the other sensor to light.

Access Master 1/3 HP garage door does not close, blinks

Most likely your door sensors are out of alignment. Make sure they are pointed directly at one another.

Garage door opener won't close. travels 6-8 in.,

If you cannot get the light on the sensor to come on by tweaking it,making sure it is pointed at the other sensor and your wiring is not broken or shorted then your sensors need to be replaced.

Cold weather came in and now the garage door closes about 6 inches then goes back up. I have sprayed penetrant on all moving parts and the door closes fine manually. It is minus 30 degrees celcius outside...

Try increasing the 'down force'. You will find the control on the rear of the motor unit near where all those white wires go. Increase it about 1/4 turn and try.

My garage door will not stay down when I try to close it.

IF THE DOOR CLOSES ALL THE WAY WHEN HOLDING DOWN THE WALL BUTTON AND REVERSES 6" FROM THE FLOOR WHEN NOT HOLDING THE BUTTON.
I WOULD GUESS THAT THE SAFETY EYES ARE MOUNTED ON THE TRACK.
WHEN THE DOOR CLOSES THE TRACK AT THE BOTTOM IS TOO TIGHT CAUSING IT TO FLEX AS THE DOOR GETS NEAR THE BOTTOM. WHEN THE TRACK FLEXES THE EYES ARE POINTING FURTHER AWAY FROM THE DOOR AND EVENTUALLY THEY ARE TOO FAR OUT OF ALINMENT AND THE LED WILL GO OFF - THE DOOR GOES BACK UP.

SOLUTION: YOU CAN USE THE CLAW END OF A HAMMER TO TAP THE TRACK OUT A LITTLE WIDER - TAP NEXT TO THE WALL ON THE BRACKET THAT HOLDS THE TRACK TO THE WALL. MOVE THEM ABOUT 1/4" EACH SIDE.

OR

YOU CAN MOUNT THE BRACKETS TO THE WALL OR THE FLOOR.

THIS SHOULD SOLVE IT

HAVE A GREAT DAY
