HP Scanjet 5300cse, setup.exe file will not run using windows XP

I am trying to install my scanner on a windows xp os and when I downloaded the program from HP website, I can't get the setup.exe file to run. I have tried to redo it many times, I've downloaded the program repeatedly and it doesn't work. I've also tried it with the scanner connected and disconnected. I tried the included software and it kept locking up my computer, so that didn't work for me. Any suggestions?

Whats your hardware.
Try this solution...
Does it show up in your hardware profiles? What does it say on details when you right click the scanner? When you installed the driver, was it before your plugged in the USB? You may have to uninstall and reinstall it again, this time use the one from HP's website with any patch if applicable.
If you have successfully used it in the past, follow the install prompts and restart.. instead of using the products software, use Windows included scanningHP Scanjet 5300cse, setup.exe file will not run us - 2_bing.gif program which is much better than the proprietary one designed by HP. As long as you have the proper driver installed your system will know how to apply it.

Hi I bought a Canon Canoscan FS4000US used online. No driver came with product. Canon website does not offer any downloads when viewing canon website with WIndows Vista 64 Bit. It does show available...

When I go to the Canon site, I get prompted to select my OS: . On other parts of the Canon support site, I need to click on a Change OS link to get that dropdown menu or swap to the Select OS in that dropdown menu and then refresh the page. Then I can select a new OS. (Note the site uses Javascripts that do not seem compatible with all browsers. I found it worked with Firefox 6.0.2 . The exact location is hidden until you agree to the Canon Terms of Use.)

However, this driver, fs4000usvst103ben.exe, is listed as a Vista 32-bit driver released in 2007. Since the 64-bit Windows requires signed drivers, Canon doesn't make 64-bit drivers for their older scanners. (This scanner was released with compatibility with Win98.) Thus you will probably get an error message about the unsigned driver when you try to install it.

If the driver refuses to install, you may be able to run the driver installer by using the compatibility mode. Download the file and save it to your hard drive. Right click on the exe file and choose Properties. In the Compatibility Tab, select Run this Program in the Compatibility Mode and choose XP. Click Apply and then OK. Right click again on the exe and choose Run as Administrator.

I hope this helps.

Do you know how I can get my Epson CX5300 to work with my new laptop which runs on Windows 7 please? thanks Corinna

You can try installing the driver in Compatibility Mode. First of all, download the Windows XP driver from here [Click Here], open the link and click "Download (4MB)" to download. After the download it completed, extract the files to a specific folder [it's a winzip file], locate "Setup.exe" file and right-click, then "Properties", click "Compatibility Mode" tab and then click "Run this program in Compatibility Mode", select "Windows XP Service Pack 2", and also select "Run this program as Administrator", click "Apply" and then "Ok" and install the driver by double-clicking the "Setup.exe" file.

I can't find drivers for HP Designjet 1050c printer running with Windows 7 OS

And you won't.. Because there are none as this unit is considered too OLD. Try this "work around". Download your XP driver you wish to install. If it's in a zip/rar file then extract it to your desktop. You should have a simple .exe file sitting on your desktop to install the drivers, as normal for XP. Right click the .exe file and select "Properties". Then select the tab called "Compatibility" Now check the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" Make sure "Windows XP Service Pack 2" is highlighted. Now apply the settings and run the installer. This should work for most drivers, but not all

Make it work with VISTA home premium

What version of Windows are you using it on at present, or have you been in the
past? If XP then get the latest versions from:

There's a main download and an update.

If you have any HP software that you have tried uninstall it using Remove
Programs and then disconnect the USB cable from the PC end and install the XP
software as follows:

Locate the downloaded file ps804en.exe 1/1 (70.62M) on your computer, Right
Mouse Click on it and select Properties / Compatibility TAB.

On that TAB, check Use Compatibility mode and set it to XP with SP2 and also
check lower down the [x] Run as Administrator and OK your way out.

Do not connect the device until the installation procedure tells you to or
until you get to Finish.

Then repeat the procedure on the downloaded update file ps803mu.exe 1/1
(373.11k) although you can leave the USB cable connected unless it tells you
