I just brought a 1987 suzuki dr600 yesterday, and i was wondering how much oil are they meant to take, and how do you check to see how much oil is in the engine, also i relised after it is meant to have a oil cooler on it, but it has been taken off, so is this ok to not run a oil cooler on them?

No
the sump oil deteriorates if too hot and that destroys the engine
It is designed to have an oil cooler so fit one
Probably removed because it was damaged
contact a dealer service for the oil quantities and viscosity requirements

SOURCE: How much oil do i need to put in the engine of my 1987 suzuki rm 250?

It should be stamped on the right side of the engine case. If not most 250s require between .75 and .85 liters

SOURCE: Check Oil On 1993 Suzuki Katana 750

Just make the bike level and check it. It's actually better to check it after the engine has been off for ten minutes or so. This ensures that the oil has had time to drain back into the pan and is not circulating elsewhere in the system. That will help with obtaining an accurate reading

SOURCE: Engine Oil Check

Your title description says 2003. Is your bike a 2003 or a 1996? If your bike does not have a dipstick on the filler, there may be a sight glass on the crankcase. If this is the case, the sight glass will be low on the right side of the crankcase. In order to ge an accurate estimate of your oil level, the bike must be level, not on the side stand.

Having problems with my 86 model suzuki dr600 ran it as it stopped just would not start again just died. A friend of mine has the same bike we have tried the coil and cdi both parts worked on his bike .....

Have you checked your fuses?
Checked your carbs for debris or fueling issues.
If an electric fuel pump, does it 'buzz' when ignition on. If non electric (most likely) are you getting fuel to the carbs?
Have you checked your filter, fuel tap and or vacuum lines.

I just brought a 2003 suzuki 600 katana and I need to know what type of motor oil including weight and best brand?

I would suggest a 10W/40 semi synthetic oil. I use Comma or Planet. I have used this oil in a 1987 Honda Transalp for about 10 years. A Yamaha TW125 for 10 years and a Suzuki SV650 for 5 years.
No problems encountered. Also it was the only oil that helped to stop a smoke problem with a Citreon BX 16 some years ago. (Also seemed to give it a bit of a power increase for some reason).

What is the tampet setting for a suzuki dr 600 1987?

Cannot help you with the actual specifications you require, but the below link has provided further threads to the specs I've needed prior to getting a service manual for all of my bikes.

Cheers.
