Question about Grundig S350 AM/FM/SW Radio

1 Answer

I replaced the batteries in my S350 and it started smoking.

I smelled a strange odor and when I took the batterie out they had melted the battery connectors. It no longer works. I has been working perfectly for 4 years.

There are any number of reasons for this to occur, but I would call Eton customer service in California. They're very helpfull and the number is located on the manual that came with the radio. If you no longer have that, just go to their web site.

Unfortunately, the limit on the warranty has run out, so their is probably nothing that can be done outside of buying a new one. ACT Electronics can fix Grundig radios, but the price will probably exceed the cost of this model.

the alternator , battery , or starter has burnt out or has a short to earth , wire may be rubbing on chassis some where, trace the wire that you saw smoke from and make sure its not worn through etc , at the least i would say a new alternator and battery is required , without seeing the vehicle its hard to be specific, hope this helps , also will need to check the fuse box's for any blown fuses , make sure you've located that smoking wire

Smokes and smells like gas at muffler

That has to be gas that is not being burned! No idea why blowing a fuse with the air compressor rashed your car like that - must be coincidental or collateral damage.

Black and decker firestorm 12V charger has melted the battery

There are no parts available for these tools. The Firestorm line of tools were involved in a recall around 2002. It is extremely hard to find any Firestorm tool around anymore and ever rarer to find any that work. Most of the problems were centered around melting plastics and some involved smoke and fire.

Hi,
The only way to tell if you can fix it is to take the drill apart...
Look for two wires melted together...my guess is that they got too hot and melted together inside the drill... separate and insulate and you should be fine...

Not turning on and has strange smell

Powershot A640 Could Not Be Powered On, Burnt Smell

My Powershot A640 died during a picture shot, lens remaining open. I thought it may be due to the dead batteries. But after putting new batteries and pushing the on/off button, the on/off indicator blinked once then shut off by itself. After a while, a strange smell came from camera batteries area, and I could feel warm there too. Immediately I took out all the batteries from camera.

When checking the posts here the other day, I tried one solution and got the lens back to close: first took out the memory card from camera, then put the new batteries in; push the on/off button with no memory card. I found the lens retracted a little before camera shut off by itself. I pushed on/off button three times to get the lens fully close. However, the burnt smell came out again. I immediately took out the batteries.
Did I get a short circuit inside? Is there any ways to fix it?

Electrical Problems

Do not leave the car in the garage without the battery disconnected until you locate the source of the smoke, the best tool to find the smoke's source is your nose, smell the area around the source of the smoke, if you smell a really nauseating smell you found it, then look for signs of burnt wires or burnt components, also look for any oil that may have caused the smoke, but I doubt that was the source, this sounds electrical. I know of no problems for your car that would cause this, so most likely it is not a common problem.

Odd odor

Yes..... that odor you smell was a component burning out on the circuit board. if you were lucking it only burned out one thing. fixable....if you have the time. actually anything is fixable it usually boils down to the cost of fixing it vs replacing the item.

Hi

Where there's smoke, there's fire...or at least was.
There aren't many parts here that can fail. Electric motors are usually pretty sturdy, so the main culprits could be the controller or the batteries. First thing to do is to visually inspect the parts. If there was smoke, there was heat...so check for discoloring and warped plastics.
If you have a voltmeter, check if the batteries are actually full after you've charged them. My guess is one or both batteries have died.
good luck
