Are you certain that you have a 1080p video source? Blu-Ray players are true 1080p, for example. Many cable companies only broadcast in 720p or 1080i. Also, if you are using cable, you'll need to be sure that your cable-box is an HD model. If not, you'll need to have it upgraded as well.

In addition many TV service providers are unable to send a true HD signal. the max is 720p or 1080i as refered to above. some sattelite companies are beginning to dabble in it but nothing full swing as of yet.

How I get a 1080p display. I only get 720p

You need to have a 1080p source. Most TV channels broadcast in 720p. Otherwise, a bluray player hooked up via HDMI will give you 1080p. The TV will switch to the correct resolution automatically.

I just bought a used ps3 i hook it up to my emerson hd tv and it shows format not supported , i then hooked it up to my poleroid hd tv and it works fine this all thru the hdmi cable

What are the specs on your emerson, does it support 1080p? Make sure you have the right settings on your ps3. If your emerson supports 720p and 1080i then it will not give you a 1080p picture and you might run into issues.

I bought an HDMI hookup to hook the blueray player I got to my Apex tv. I plugged it into HDMI and then turned the input on my tv to HDMI and after a few seconds it says mode not supported. What is wrong?

The DVD player is most likely outputting at 1080p, where as the TV can only input at 720p. What you can do is hook your dvd player up to another TV, and scale back the output from 1080p to 720p, then try it on your TV again.

I had ps3 hooked up to 720p tv then hooked it up to 1080p moniter now it won't show a picture on 720p tv

you have to switch it back to 720p mode before disconnecting it from the 1080p television. If you're using HDMI, and then switching back to the a/v connectors, then you have to switch the output settings of the ps3 from hdmi to a/v as well.

1080P video via HDMI generates awful interference

Your Plasma's native resolution is 720P. Go into the Blu Ray's output setup. you can choose 480p 480i 720p 1080i and 1080p. Set it for 720p that should clear up the issue. You may have to run Component directly to the TV since you only have 1 HDMI input and you can run Digital coax or optical to your AV receiver for audio. On a 50" TV the difference between 720p and 1080p using "GOOD" cables cannot be seen by the human eye. Above 50, yes it is noticeable.
Hope this helps.

Sony bravia klv-32t400a hdmi input through x-box and p.c gives error reading - unsupported signal! check device output. both are on 1080p using hdmi to hdmi cable v1.3 why no vidio, only audio

The problem is that, according to the specs for that TV, it doesn't support 1080p.
That's a 720p television you've got. (Specs here)
While the specs say that it supports 1080p, the resolution says it supports 1366 x 768, which is only 720p, not 1080p or even 1080i.
You may want to contact Sony for clarification, because their specs for that tv are contradicting each other.
