there might be a problem with the VGA driver. while booting, repeatedly press F8 until you get the boot options (black screen with white text) with your arrow keys, you select "boot in VGA mode"
then you can easily reinstall the video driver.
I would suggest connecting the laptop to an external monitor, just to make sure that it is all running correctly.
If you can see a very dim image on the screen then the backlight is out. This can be a light problem or the inverter that powers the backlight could be bad. The inverter is not real dificult to change and also is not very expensive. If it is the backlight tho, it is easier to just change out the entire screen.
i thknk your dispaly driver is not installed or may be not working.
when u power up the laptop then pressF8 key then enter in enable vga mode.then change diaplay settings to 1024*768 then if u can do it then your problem is solved.
try to open a window and maximize it (make it full screen) then close it. When you open another window it should open full screen. This is something windows "remembers" and to the best of my knowledge there is no way to set this.
