Vista 64 bit. What I find extremely confusing is how this got here in the first place. I did not put it here, as far as I remember.

Please look here for the question I actually remember submitting and just did.http://www.fixya.com/support/t1437555-dr...

    Sorry for the inconvienence.

  • xpok7 Dec 27, 2008

    i) I am not installing drivers from the CD. However, I did try installing the drivers from the CD and got the same error.

ii) The Sapphire 4850 is a relatively new graphics card (not the physical thing, but the item itself). I am using Vista, and the drivers are not too old.

iii) I did not try another Driver CD, but I did download drivers from the internet multiple times from the official AMD website. I got the same error every time.

iv) There is no file corruption unless I am downloading a corrupted file. My system is virus-free (as said by AVG and Spybot S&D).

  • xpok7 Dec 27, 2008

I did what you tried, but it said the inf file was still missing. Do you think I should put it in the ATI folders too?

  • xpok7 Dec 27, 2008

Tried putting it into the ATI folders. Didn't work. Anything else you know of that I can try?

  • xpok7 Dec 31, 2008

I solved it, installed drivers manually with AMD tech support help. Thanks for trying, everyone.

yes, definitely try putting the file into the ATI's folders as well

if you put it into the ATI folders, place it in here:
    C:\Program Files\ATI\CIM\Bin
    C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE
    \Core-Implementation
    \Core-Static

if you cant find some of those those folders, don't worry about it, some ATI G-Cards are slightly different, just ignore putting it into that folder

Solution:

i) if you are trying install drivers from CD try to make sure that CD is in working or good condtion(i mean    no scratches, no spots, dots,...no breaks.....)

ii) if this CD came withur computer  and if it is too old..... then there is possibility of  loss of data on the       CD.

iii) try another Driver CD if you have it or download it from internet, if it is working then surely there is           some problem with ur old CD

iv) or if you have Setup directly on your computer and you are installing from ur system rather than CD then they may be some file corruption(due to virus.....)

Thanking You,

Cannot install a device driver by using its installation program in Windows...

ISSUE- You cannot install a device driver by using its installation program in Windows Vista
OVERVIEW-
When you try to install a device driver by using its installation program in Windows Vista, you are unsuccessful.
SYMPTOMS:
You may experience this issue if the following conditions are true:
• The driver uses an executable file-based installation program.
• The installation program was not designed for Windows Vista.
CAUSES:
Problems with executable file-based installation programs may occur if any one or more of the following conditions are true:
• The installation program is incompatible with Windows Vista.
• The driver is incompatible with Windows Vista.
• An issue occurs that is related to the user rights that are required to install the driver.
RESOLUTION:
To resolve this problem, run the driver installation program in compatibility mode. Or, use an account that has administrative credentials to run the driver installation program. You can also locate the .inf file for the driver, and then manually install the driver.
Important Before you use one of these methods, we recommend that you contact the device manufacturer or the driver manufacturer for more information about how to install the driver in Windows Vista.
To run the driver installation program in compatibility mode
Configure the driver installation program to run in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 compatibility mode. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Locate the executable file for the driver installation program.
2. Right-click the file and then click Properties.
3. In the PackageName Properties dialog box, click the Compatibility tab.
4. Click to select the Run this program in compatibility mode for check box, click Windows XP (Service Pack 2) in the Run this program in compatibility mode for list, and then click OK.
5. Double-click the executable file to start the installation program.
To run the driver installation program by using administrative credentials
Configure the driver installation program to run in the context of the Administrator account. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Locate the executable file for the driver installation program.
2. Right-click the file, and then click Run as administrator.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue.
3. Follow the steps to install the driver.
To locate the .inf file and manually install the driver
Use Device Manager to install the driver. To do this, follow these steps.
Step 1: Locate the .inf file
Locate the .inf file that is included with the driver installation program. Generally, the .inf file is located in one of the following folders on the driver installation media:
• In the same folder as the Setup program.
• In a subfolder that is in the folder that contains the Setup program. Generally, the subfolder has a name such as Windows XP, Drivers, or WinXP.
If the driver files are packaged in a single executable file, you may be able to extract them or otherwise access them. To do this, use one of the following methods, as appropriate for your situation:
• Use a file compression program to extract the files.
If the driver files are packaged in a single executable file, you may be able to use a file compression tool such as WinZip or WinRAR to extract the contents of the driver package to a folder. The .inf file should be among the files that you extract.
• Use the Windows Compressed Folders feature to extract the files.
If you do not have the WinZip program or the WinRAR program, you may be able to extract the files by using the Windows Compressed Folders feature. To do this, change the file name extension from .exe to .zip. Then, use Windows Explorer to copy the files from the compressed folder.
• Extract the contents from the .cab file.
If there is no .inf file in the driver package, but there are one or more .cab files, you may be able to extract the contents of the .cab files.
Note This method is usually unsuccessful. Typically, these kinds of driver packages are created by using the InstallShield program. The InstallShield program uses a special .cab format that is not designed to be accessed by tools such as WinZip or WinRAR.
• Locate the files in the Temp folder.
If you still cannot access the installation files, try to locate extracted temporary files. Typically, files are extracted to a local Temp folder when you install a program. You may be able to view the contents of the driver package by examining the contents of the Temp folder. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Remove the contents of the Temp folder. By removing the contents of the Temp folder, you can more easily locate the temporary files that are created when you run the driver installation program. To remove the contents of the Temp folder, follow these steps:
a. Click Start and then click Computer.
b. Right-click the hard disk on which Windows Vista is installed, and then click Properties.
 In the Local Disk (DriveLetter) Properties dialog box, click the General tab, and then click Disk Cleanup.
 In the Disk Cleanup Options dialog box, click Files from all users on this computer.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue.
 Under Files to delete, click to clear all the check boxes, click to select the Temporary files check box, and then click OK.
 When you are prompted to permanently delete the files, click Delete Files.
c. Use Windows Explorer to open the Temp folder. To do this, click Start
type %temp% in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
d. Start the driver installation program.
Note Some installation programs automatically delete the temporary files when the installation program exits. Therefore, leave the driver installation program running in the background.
e. Examine the contents of the Temp folder to locate the driver files.
Step 2: Manually install the driver
After you locate the .inf file for the driver that you want to install, manually install the new driver. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Click Start , right-click Computer, and then click Properties.
2. In the Tasks pane, click Device Manager.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue.
3. In Device Manager, locate the device for which you want to install the driver.
Note To display hidden devices, click Show hidden devices on the View menu.
4. Right-click the device and then click Update Driver Software.
5. Click Browse my computer for driver software, click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer, and then click Have Disk.
6. In the Install from Disk dialog box, click Browse, locate an .inf file for the device driver that you want to install, and then click Open.
7. Follow the steps in the Update Driver Software DeviceName dialog box to update the driver.

I need ethernet driver for EMACHINES T2682

This system comes preinstalled with Windows XP and only XP drivers a re available for download. They are not guaranteed to work with Win 7 or Vista but may.

The Ethernet driver or LAN (realtec) driver can be downloaded by clicking here.

  1. Its a zip file, extract it in any folder.
  2. There are three files, one of which is .INF file.
  3. To install the LAN driver open Device Manager from Control Panel.
  4. Locate the ethernet controller.
  5. Right-click on it and select Upgrade Driver.
  6. Choose to install manually.
  7. Then select pick driver from computer.
  8. Browse to the folder and point the installation to the INF file. It will install it automatically.
You can also find other (audio, video etc) drivers on this website. Just select your desired computer from the list.

Driver Install INF Error

Physically uninstall the 4850. Now download and install "Revo uninstaller" (FREE). Use this tool to completely uninstall any and all software associated with the 4850. Next run system restore and restore your computer to a date prior to your original physical installation of the card. The computer should now re-start to it's condition before the 4850. Now you can begin a PROPER installation by first installing the SOFTWARE that came with the card and following the instructions to install the card afterward. Remember, Windows likes software FIRST.

P.S. If you want to run with the big dogs - carry a map.

Hi Shree.
I will provide you a driver which has worked for lots of people. Try this driver and let me know.
This model of Presario has an audio controller that supports the high definition audio. You need to have Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver for High Definition Audio installed on the computer before installing the audio driver.    Here is the link for the Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture driver that need to be installed before installing the audio driver:    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp33501-34000/sp33867.exe
After installing the UAA driver reboot the notebook and install the audio driver from the following link:

Conexant CX20549-12 High Definition Audio driver:    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp35501-36000/sp35940.exe

Installing this driver may result in an error. But continue with the following steps to get the audio driver installed correctly.    1. Click on Start and select Run. Now type devmgmt.msc and press enter.  2. Right click on "AUDIO DEVICE ON HIGH DEFINATION BUS" or Conexant High defination audio entry and click Update driver.  3. Select "Not at this time", click on next and Select "Install from a list or specific location"  4. Click Next. Then select "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install"  5. I am trying to backup my computer to PMD, But every time get an install error saying (the INF file you selected does not support this method of installation.) I did't have this promble when the PMD was in...

You may have a corrupted driver for your PMD. See if the manufacturer as a driver or HP.
Microsoft Windows drivers must have an INF file in order to be installed. An INF file is a text file that contains all the information necessary to install a device, such as driver names and locations, registry information, version information, that is used by the Setup components.

Vista usb issue no inf file or corrupt

my only suggestion is that Windows Vista doesn't have the drivers for the USB port or it doesn't recognize it's there, I'd try downloading a driver off the internet, install it and see if that works

Hope this helps
