- Wow, thank you SO much for answering me. I'll try not to sound like an idiot here. Funny thing... there is no icon, like there used to be on my old Dell laptop telling me that wireless network has been found. During the installation process of the d-link software, it located my wireless network (said 100% signal and I was sitting in the next room, so I assume that was it), said it was locked, and setup asked for the network encryption password. On the side of my little AT&T Uverse tower thing (not a techie) next to my desktop system that they replaced my former modem with, I found a System Password # and a Wireless Network Key #. For the encryption # I gave setup the System Password #. I hope that was what they were asking for. I had no idea my network was locked. Do I have a wireless modem connected to my router? Trying to understand the question. On the new laptop there is just the d-link card, and on my desktop we the AT&T Uverse guys disconnected our old modem and put in this tall tower thing that says local ethernet, wireless, phone 1, phone 2, broadband, etc. What is that called? Thanks.Dec 27, 2008
- We have wireless service, but we have never used it. This is the first time we have tried to connect to it. I did use the wireless setup wizard on my desktop, but it wanted me to plug a flashdrive into the wireless router, and then to the laptop to add it. There is no standard USB port in the wireless router-- only a really tiny one. I tried just doing the whole thing over again and still my laptop is not giving me confirmation of recognition of our wireless signall-- ony during the setup process. Yes the network key # was really long. Thanks.Dec 28, 2008

- Do I need to have a separate cable or can I just unplug my desktop cable for this reason, plug it into my laptop, and plug it back into the desktop when we are finished? If that will work, I can do it tonight at 7:00 or 8:00, or name another time. Staying home and not doing anything. : ) I'll check back after supper ~ 6:00 central time here. SJan 01, 2009

- No internet phone.
I have the AT&T Uverse unit which replaced my old external modem. Can I just unplug the cable than runs from my desktop tower to the AT&T Uverse THING (I don't know what it's called), and plug in in to the laptop instead?
