Got a new HDTV, so naturally want the surround sound. Well, I have an AVR 900 Denon receiver, a subwoofer, four corner speakers and one long speaker... PROBLEM: Can't get the sound from the TV to come through the speaker. I have unhooked everything, unplugged, re-hooked. All wires are "color coded" that go into the TV and to the back of the receiver...but no luck! Of course I can't find the owner's manual either...thanks
Ok i have the same reciver do you use hdmi to go to your tv or componet what ever you use there will be an audio out for rca on the cable box if you dont use a cable box keep reading but use hdmi to tcv then the rca audio out to the denon avr 900 obviously out it in the vdp/tv unput. and if you dont use a cable box your tv shoiuld have an audio output in the back of it for rca connect rca to audio output then other end to the denon avr 900s vdp/tv input

The surround sound outputs outputs ic's in the remainder of the system have opened, or there is a short in the speaker wiring, check to make sure that is not the case, if okay! you will need a repairman to assess the situation.
I understand, it's something I've misunderstood on my denon avr-790 as well when connected to a samsung 8000 series led tv. The answer isn't in the receiver's settings (you can be on whatever source you want on the receiver end when toggling the menu). You need to toggle through the tv's sources to find the menu (usually found on hdmi 1). I've spent towards an hour recently troubleshooting only to find that it was the tv's source that wasn't set properly and I was trying to change the receiver's settings instead of the tv's source. Hope that helps!
THE BEST SOUND IS WHAT SOUNDS BEST TO YOU, HOWEVER DO THIS:
1, USING THE SETUP MIC CONFIGURE YOUR DENON, PAGE 8 OF THE MANUAL. NEXT
2. RAISE THE REAR SPKR LEVELS, PAGE 46,47. NEXT
3. WHEN LISTENING TO AUDIO CD OR RADIO TRY THE 5 CH STEREO DSP MODE.
4. WHEN WATCHING A DVD USE DSP DOLBY PROLOGIC OR TRY 5CH STEREO IF THE MOVIE IS MOSTLY TALKING.
5, TRY 5CH STEREO WHEN WATCHING PROGRAMS WITH MOSTLY TALKING
HDMI input connect as follows: 1.Connect an HDMI cable from the Cable box to the TV/CBL HDMI input on the Denon. 2.Connect an HDMI cable from the Xbox to the DVD/HDP input on the Denon. 3.Connect an HDMI cable from the HDMI out-put on the Denon to an input on the Samsung. You don’t have to use the optical output from these to devices since the HDMI cable allows for the transfer of both audio and video, if you have them extra use them in addition tothe HDMI cable and last, 4.On front of denon after you setup and assign your optical connections, if you use them, once you select TV/CBL or DVD/HDP as a source, press the input mode button to select auto
