Toner LED remains on with after new cartridge is installed.

Open the front cover and leave open while completing the following steps:
Turn the printer off.
Hold the 'go' button while turning the printer on. All panel lights should be on.
Release the 'go' button.
Press the 'go' button 2 times.
Pause.
Press the 'go' button 5 times.
The toner light should be off.
The paper light should be on.
Close cover. The ready light should be the only light on.

Great solution, I have a HL-2030 and the trick from Sunshine3240 worked just fine. The fact that it had just blocked on the toner light was driving me crazy. How do you find a solution like that - trial and error?

Try this. Take the toner cartridge out of the drum it sits in. Look on the left side. You'll see a half circled groove with a tab inside it. If the tab is turned to the right(3 o'clock position) then you'll have to switch it to the left(10 o'clock position). This happens when you try to change the cartridge while the printer is ON. This is the most common solution to this problem.

Ive followed all instructions, to no avail!

Have the same problem. Have tried EVERY fix posted here-covering the sensor holes, the reset procedures, turning back the white dial to the 9 o'clock position, everything and nothing is helping. I've just installed a brand new toner and the toner light is staying solidly lite. Any other suggestions?

I will NEVER purchase a brother product again. Have 2 Canon printers for 7 years-never a problem with either. Have had this brother 2070N for less than a year and nothing but one problem after another...

I've been searching for a long time for solution to the 2170 model by brother. I tried covering the sensor holes, etc with no luck, even resetting didn't work.
it was so simple, all i did was force the little tab on the left side of the cartridge back to the beginning, it seems to move on a half circle gear or something like that.
re-inserted the toner cartridge and it thought it was brand new!
wow, i could have saved myself a ton knowing this!
