You advertised free help, then tell me I have to pay for an answer, and then ask me to tell you, for free, how I solved the problem I asked you to help me with?! Are you serious?

Hi - to start off, check the base of the router for a label. If there is one, it should give the full name and model number: if you post that here someone may be able to give some specific help. (Can I ask, is it a Belkin Gateway router, for example?)

The label MAY also contain the login address for the router, and the default username/password. The login address will be something like 192.168.2.1.

If your router is powered up and connected to your computer (by ethernet cable), you should be able to login to your router interface by entering the address into a web browser address bar, as (eg) http://192.168.2.1

(Note, there is no 'www')
This will bring up a popup box, where you are prompted to enter the username and password. These will be the defaults if they have not been changed. If it is a Belkin, for example, the password is blank. If successful, you will be in the user interface, where you can adjust your settings.

This is all I can tell you without the full model name/number, but hope it will help you make a start.
