Most likely it is on the motherboard. You can download a service guide from the HP website which will point the way.

- try going to bios and check if the HDD is detected
- if yes, load default bios
- if not detected, go to HP website and see if there's an option how to reset the HDD
- if resetting the HDD did not resolved it, then you need to replace the HDD

I have a HP Pavilion Dv4-2049wm And the screen went black. When i turn it on the keys light up. But the Caps Lock And Number Key blink 2 times. From what i read its a bios error. What do i do to fix this...

I don't think a bios update will fix the problem. I think the LED fault code indicates a CPU error. The CPU rarely fails suddenly so it is unlikely to be a faulty CPU (although not impossible). It may be due to corrupt CMOS data. This is the settings in the bios, backed up by a small 3V battery inside the laptop. This data can be cleared and reset to default but you need to disconnect from the mains, remove the laptop battery and then locate the CMOS battery and disconnect it. Unfortunately I cannot tell you where this battery is in your laptop. You will need to remove the keyboard and have a look inside. It may be accessible from underneath after removing the main battery or under another cover. After you locate and disconnect the cmos battery, leave it for a few minutes and then re-connect the battery and put the laptop back together. Try switching it on again.

Pls instruct me How to delete Bios Password on HP Elitebook 2730p. Thanks a lot.

To reset the BIOS password read the information from this link.

In case of your HP laptop the easiest method would be using software from Hiren's Boot CD as it's pretty hard to open it up and reach for the CMOS battery or the jumper and I wouldn't recommend doing it especially if it's under warranty.

Underneath the bottom usually inside one of the 2/3 square panels. Does it loose the time only when unplugged or no matter what?

Need instructions to take laptop apart to replace bios battery, my laptop is losing time and i think it needs replaced. Can someone tell me how to locate the battery?

Here is the service manual for your laptop courtesy of HP:

http://bizsupport2.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00622160/c00622160.pdf

Look in section 6.3 for dissasemly instructions on how to take apart the laptop.

Then go to page 6-51 of the service manual and it shows you a picture of the BIOS Battery as it looks to be in the top cover.

Reset bios password

You need to locate the Cmos battery, not the jumpers, this is not a desktop.

Locate the Cmos battery, disconnect the battery for ten seconds, and Bios will reset to factory default.

Bios password

is there not a jumper on the motherboard to reset bios? you could also try to remove the bios battery (a watch-type battery located directly on the motherboard)

you can flash bios most commonly by downloading the bios update to a floppy, and then booting with the floppy in the drive, but if you do it wrong, the end result will be a very expensive paperweight, hence flashing bios should be a last resort...

HP laptop Pavilion DV 4000 Password

First, DON'T SHORT ANYTHING ELSE OUT!
Now, tell me how one sets a bios password, then just forgets it?
If you can prove ownership on a laptop as new as a DV4000, there are plenty of posts out there describing the proceedure for recovering the system. Occasionally even HP will helpout legitimate owners in situations such as this.
I'm sorry, but this isn't the forum for this particular problem.
Good luck
