My samsung chromebook has different strips of colors going down the screen

try laptop through a different monitor using a vga cable, if it fixes the problem then you have a screen fault, if it doesn't then you will have a graphics fault, screen fault could just be the inverter, graphics fault can be alot more tricky to put right. unless it has a removable graphics card. then just replace card.

Entire screen moves with crusor

I actually think its either a setting elsewhere, or a driver issues causing this problem.

Quick Fixes
Firstly, ensure that all the cables are fitted properly from the monitor to the computer. There should be no movement.
Most monitors come with an option to reset them, have a play with the buttons and look for reset option (on the monitor) (maybe consult manual)

Takes a bit longer Fixes..

I actually think its the graphics driver so this is more likely to work smile.gif

Lets try reinstalling the graphics driver.

XP
Click Start - RUN, type devmgmt.msc
and Press OK

When the new screen appears, look down the list and expand the + sign next to Display Adapters
Right click the adapter, click uninstall driver. Then Restart

Vista/Windows 7
Click the Orb/Start, type devmgmt.msc
and Press OK

Same as above, except do not tick the box 'remove driver'
Restart when complete..

on boot go to setup, make sure you have display set to LCD and not external monitor, if still a problem after boot, wait for windows sound, hold function key down and press the F4 key (or what ever function key looks like it has a monitor /lcd symbol on it, mine is the F4)

How do i get the monitor to work if i didn't change the settings on the 1st monitor

Assuming that you've just added a second monitor.

You need to go into the Display Settings, or Display Properties dialogue box.

In there go to the Settings tab.

You'll see two squares marked 1 and 2. select the second one, then lower down on the dialogue box you'll see a checkbox to enable "Extend my Desktop to this Monitor"

Check it and you're good.
With your mouse you can select each monitor, and drag them around to adjust how your two desktop displays will seem together, higher lower, left or right side. Experiment till you're comfortable.

Hope this helps.

I have a viewsonic computor monitor...I was hook up to 2 monitors..When I unplug one I cannot get a signal from the one left...check all plugs and wires

Things to try.

Move the signal (VGA) cord going to the monitor from the computer, from the one output, onto the other output.
If you removed the primary monitor without changing your display settings, then your second monitor will have nothing to extend from.
Another possibility is that the second display is disabled since there is no monitor detected.

Also, Be shure the power cord plugged into the back of the monitor, is pushed in all the way. These tend to slip out a little when getting moved around.

Hope this helps.

I have rolling lines on my monitor. It is an Acer Al1916w flat screen monitor. It began last night when I pressed the reset key by mistake

Hello, There could be two possibilities. Drivers for Video card are not installed, bad. or a faulty monitor (could be loose inside the computer) or graphics card. Another reason is because the cord that goes to the computer for whatever reason is to close to a power cord or power bar. Have you tried moving it any?
After eliminating all of these things the only thing left is the monitor itself and within the monitor the only component typically capable of producing rolling lines as you describe is the power supply.
I suspect it's the refresh rate in the monitors settings. Try making the refresh rate lower.

My Screen freezes then goes blank

I had already done the things that your expert suggested. This morning I purchased a new web cam but the same problem occurred. I took my computer back to the shop where I had just had a new motherboard, graphics card, processor and RAM put into my computer. They managed to solve the problem as it was the problem with 'frame rates per second' that the graphics card was set at. It was on 60 but should be on 85fps. What he did was Rt Click on desktop, > properties, > settings, > advanced > monitor to change the settings. Now problem is solved.

Blurry and dark picture

Is the issue occuring only with the webcam, or is the picture quality of the new monitor bad in general? I would suggest checking the monitor properties via control panel. You can also try reinstalling the webcam drivers. Try that first and let me know how it goes..

Monitor going blank

Normal 0 Try disconnecting the Camera from the USB port and reinstall the CD or Downloaded software program. When the program asks you to connect the camera to the USB port, do so and it should work.
Then to use it on the Web do this.
Web Camera’s have to be setup on the program they are to be used with. Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to broadcast on messengers or Skype.
Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.
A. Skype Setup:
After downloading and installing Skype (http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/download/skype/windows/beta/downloading/ ) set it up as follows:
  1. Go to Tools, then Options, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  2. Then click on the Video Settings.
  3. The camera if Installed Properly will come up and show a video picture.
  4. Then, on the bottom of the page click on Save.
The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now be able to see and her to you.
B. Yahoo Setup:
After downloading and installing Yahoo Messenger (http://www.soft32.com/download_30.html ) set it up as follows:
  1. Go to Messenger at the top left and click on it.
  2. Next go down to Preferences and click on it.
  3. Next Calling and Devices on the right and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  4. Next go to the Test Audio section and (in blue writing) click on “Open the call setup assistant” and follow the instructions on the left window.
C. Windows Live Messenger:
  1. After you start Windows Live Messenger, expand the view by clicking on the square on top left next to the red X.
  2. Then on the Windows Live messenger window on the right side, click on “ “Show Menus.” And then click on “Show the Menu Bar”.
  3. Next go to the Menu Bar on right side, click on “ “Action.”
  4. Go to “TOOLS” and click “Audio and Video Setting” and follow the instructions.
NOTE: Your audio and video should work. Enjoy.
When done both the Audio and Video will function properly so you can chat and see family or friends you are connected to.
Hope this helps. Bud
