Both Red Lights Flash together green light off - no printing
Over 2 years ago I disabled the Epson Software monitor, and installed the SSC Service Utility. Also at that time I replumbed the waste ink to a bottle outside the printer so bottom ink absorption pads are dry. I have a CISS system on it that has worked perfectly for 2+ years. Suddenly I get two simultaneous red flashing lights on the printer and it will go through it's startup dance with the ink cartridges, but then just sits and flashes at me and won't print. Any clues?

Run SSC. Menu Configuration. Select installed printer. Select printer mode to Epson R220/230. Close dialog box by clicking cross sign at top right of dialog box. Icon will show at bottom right of dekstop. Right click, select protection counter. Show current value for checking waste ink counter. Click Reset protection counter. Turn off printer. Turn on again. Usually SSC doesn't work at Vista.
Blink alternately or not?
If alternately, the message is not "general error". but "service required" It's true to reset waste ink counter.
But, i think it's not service required. when trun on printer ready? But when start to print red lights blink at same time?
Problem with chip at ink tank. Check connector at chip and at head carriage. It's may be dirty, and not good connection. try to use another chip.
If the light are flashing, it mean waste ink full. You must clean waste ink pad, and reset the counter. You can use SSC, find at indoreset.blogspot.com. But,.. you said the light are on. try to resinstall driver. after printer recognised by comp, check status monitor. Green light on is power on, and red on mean chip error/ink out error/cartridge error.
Install it, and double click the ssc printer icon in the bottom right corner (System Tray). Choose Configuration and set your printer type (810), then close the ssc window. Now right click the ssc icon in the sytem tray and choose Protection Counter. You should see that the current count is above the limit; then choose reset to set it to zero. Turn the printer off then back on again. This will stop the lights flashing and restore normal operation.
install it set for r230 then using the tray icon right click the tray icon choose protection counter from the menu then choose reset protection counter then turn off the printer then turn the printer back on
