Question about Pioneer Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

Blown subwoofer I bought two 12" pioneer premier shallow subwoofers and only had them going for about two weeks when one of them blew. I only had them running at around 300 watts and there suppose to be able to withstand 1400. Then I bought another to replace that one and after I received the new one the other old subwoofer blew and this shouldnt happen. How can I fix this or should I start using a different kind of subwoofer?

1400 is PEAK power. not to be mistaken with RMS. 1400W in SHORT bursts.
RMS on them is 500-600W.
Your amplifier gain may be improperly set. How big is the enclosure and what amplifier are you using. All of these things will play a factor in answering your question. Dont expect a $400 experience from $100 subs.

I just bought a pioneer vsx-d409 from someone online. It came with all speakers and a subwoofer, I plugged it into the subwoofer preout and I get nothing. I plugged the sub into my pc and got it to work...

RTFM. The manual is available at retrevo.com.

Some setup is required, like telling the receiver you have a subwoofer and setting speaker levels. Modern avr's are NOTplug and play.

Pioneer VSX-815-K receiver with sub in standby

Have you looked in the manual?

No sound from subwoofer. • Make sure the subwoofer is switched on.
• If the subwoofer has a volume knob, make sure it’s turned up.
• The Dolby Digital or DTS source you are listening to may not have an LFE channel.
• Switch the subwoofer setting in Speaker Setting on page 40 to YES or PLUS.
• Switch the LFE Attenuator Setup on page 61 to LFEATT 0 or LFEATT 10.

No Sound from Subwoofer

The original Pioneer subwoofer has its own amplifier built in to the speaker, so the only cable required on the original speaker is a single RCA cable. To connect a different brand subwoofer to the Pioneer you will have to make sure that you have a subwoofer with the same specs. It will need its own built in amp to work, as you can only connect it with one RCA
