Connet to your router using a LAN cable.
Be sure you can browse
Configure your Wlan with same protocol WPA/WEP) and Keys (TKIP)
or remove every protection from your Wlan (not recommanded)
Do you see your SSID in your PC?

Computers have limited connection to linksys wrt54g although signal is full strength

Limited connectivity
If you get a 'Limited connectivity" on you wireless connection on your laptop, it means that the wireless card on your laptop probably did not get an IP address from the wireless router.
To fix this problem, right click on the wireless icon on the Task bar and then click Repair.
This will force the wireless router to issue a IP address to the wireless card on the laptop.
Also try resetting the wireless router by turning off the power to the wireless router for a few minutes and the boot up your computers.

My laptop and my iphone indicate that my wireless-g broadband router is putting out a wireless signal; but neither accessory works on the network, even though the bars are entirely full on the devices.

The bars on your laptop or iPhone means that you are connected to the router! Not necessarily to internet. Your internet depends on ISP Internet service provider and modem which connected to your router. To check if you have active internet connection connect your laptop directly to modem provided by your ISP with ethernet cable and try to open a internet browser IE or Safari or Chrome or Firefox and open a webpage! If you are able to connect internet by this mean you have internet connection active. Now disconnect your lap top from modem and connect modem to your Linksys router using WAN port of LINKSYS! Its good to power off and power on (power cycle) once on modem and router to make it work!
good luck!

What steps do I take to configure my 2wire 2701 hg-b to connect directly by ethernet cable to my Directv HD DVR and pick up the dsl signal being transmitted by my primary westell router? Both are wireless...

Connect the cable at both ends and do a red button (inside card door) reset of the DVR. To test the connection, do thus: Menu -> .....setup -> system setup -> network setup -> test connection. If it shows not connected then "reset defaults" and run "connect now"
As a basic security feature the ATT DSL 2Wire 2701HG-B router/gateway requires you to enter its pre-assigned WEP key to connect beyond the unit itself and then to the internet. Since the Direct TV DVR HD24D only does a basic connection without having a place to enter the 2701HG-B WEP key it never actually reaches the internet.
The 2Wire 2701HG-B has the ability for one attached unit to "pass through" its firewall and internal security settings using a so called "DMZplus" mode. I set the HR24D DVR to such a mode within the 2Wire unit and the DVR connected with the internet flawlessly.

If you are using a wireless connection.. It is always advisable to disable the firewall setting.. Please do that so your connection will be stable...

If connection failed or disconnect try repairing your ip address...How?.. on the lower right portion of your desktop in the taskbar you will see 2 small icons of monitors... right click on this... then click "repair" Do this always if connection failed.

Have good signal, keeps dropping off the internet

Hello,

The problem here could be the Wireless Channel.

All you have to do is the following:
1. Log into your router at 192.168.1.1 that is the default unless changed by user,
2. Click on Wireless Tab
3. Change the Wireless Channel to 6 instead of 11 or change it from 11 to 6.
4. Apply settings and you shold be fine.

You need to do this because your router is conflicting with other wireless devices that are present nearby on the same frequency.

If this does not solve just try other Wireless Channels.

Thanks.

Hope this solves your problem.

Wireless modems

Several ways to find out. One is to connect to the router's web based settings and find out if your service provider assigned an IP address to the router. Even though it states that you are connected to the network doesn't always mean you are connected to the internet. Within the settings of the router, under status you should be able to see the IP address assigned by the provider. You can release it and renew it to make sure you are receiving the latest IP that was sent from you provider. The second way to see if the issue lies with the router....bypass the router by connecting one of your computers directly to the modem. If you are connected to the internet immediately then you will know the problem lies between the modem and router. To get into the web based settings of the router type 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 into an open internet explorer address bar. Window should pop up asking for username and password. admin should be used for both. Contact me if you any other questions. Just to clarify though, router's are prone to lock-up or losing signal due to interference and age.

Good Luck.
