Ice maker inoperative

Report abuse posted by squirerv on Dec 26, 2008
I have an ice maker to a ge side by side M#-bsy25gfmdww. It is not getting water to the ice maker but is getting water to the door dispensor. I replaced the water inlet valve, and have power to both the dispensor and ice maker solenoids. I checked the icemaker line for ice and it is free and clear, any ideas on what is being overlooked? Comment posted on Dec 25, 2008 thanks I will check the inside temp. Comment posted on Dec 26, 2008 I have also verified freezer temp at o degrees and lower. My fill line is not plugged with ice because I used the water dispenser solenoid to put water in the ice tray. The ice maker solenoid does have power to it from ice maker but does not send water to ice maker. What else could be wrong? If it is the ice maker itself gone bad, how do I verify that is the problem? Thanks.

I am guessing here but you said that you had power to the selenoids.
That does not confirm that the selenoids are working. have you ohm the selenoids for shorts grounds or opens?.

Check the ice bin level arm (also the ice maker on/off switch) is in the down position. It senses when the ice bin is full and turns off the ice maker until some ice in the bin gets used. It can also be lifted into the up position to turn the ice maker off.

Why does my ge pss26lg side by side despense water but no ice?

Just because you get water from the dispenser does not mean you should also get ice made in the ice maker. Fact is there are two side to the water control valve. One for the ice maker and the other for the water dispenser. Is there ice remaining inside the ice maker slots? If not then pour water into the tray until full and if after the water freezes it drops the ice into the ice bin this will indicate a defective=> WR57X10032 Water Inlet Valve If nothing happens and the ice maker tray are full of ice this will indicate a defective=> WR30X10093 Ice Maker Assembly The ice maker is cannot be rebuilt on this model. I am here if you have questions, Thank You, John T Appliance 911

GE TFX22ZR side by side. ice maker not making ice

Try swapping the wires on the dual water inlet valve. Then try the water dispenser. The water should go to the ice maker. This will tell you weather or not the ice maker valve is working and if the line is clear.

The water inlet valve on the back of unit opens when the ice maker needs water. If the valve doesn't seal good because of sediment or wear it will continue to drip and when the water reaches the ice maker supply tube it will freeze. You can take the water line off the valve and watch to see if it drips.

A strainer before the inlet valve can also get stopped up restricting flow.

So the dispenser is getting water. Try swapping the wires on the dual water inlet valve. Then try the water dispenser. The water should go to the ice maker. This will tell you weather or not the ice maker valve is working and if the line is clear.

If the valves clicks but water doesn't get to ice maker the fill tube can be stopped up with ice.The water inlet valve on the back of the unit where the water supply comes in can have a slow leak and will cause ice to buildup and block the fill tube. Disconnect the ice maker line from the valve and watch to see if it has a slow drip. It doesn’t take much to eventually block the fill tube.

ICE MAKER INOP

Check the water control valve on back and bottom of refrigerator. One side is for the dispenser and the other side is for the ice maker. When the ice maker begins a cycle the thermostat inside the ice maker begins to warm the bottom with a heating element to allow the ice to move freely and then dump into the container beside it. As the cycle reaches its final resting place a limit switch is pressed inside the ice maker to refill with water and start the process again. So if the water valve does not open and the tray remains empty and the ice maker will try to cycle again if the thermostat says that it is cold enough again. Check your model number again and I will try to get you some drawings. The number looks good but can't seem to pull it up. Let me know what you see and find. Try filling the tray with tap water and see if it will cycle after freezing. Thanks, Sea Breeze

GE older ice maker won't make ice

pull the cover of the front of the ice maker. there should be directions as to what way to turn the main gear (use a philips screw driver). advance the ice maker until it starts to run on its own. if water comes in at the end of the cycle then you need a new ice maker. if no water comes in check to make sure the fill tube is not frozen. if it is clear replace the water valve.

Good Luck,
Todd

Ice maker doesn't work

When you say you are getting water do you mean you are getting water in the ice maker tray? If so then unfortunately you will need to replace the ice maker. If not getting water to the ice maker then make sure the fill tube to the ice maker isn't frozen shut. If so, thaw it out and see what happens. If it isn't frozen shut then replace the ice maker. New ge ice makers, when installed, will not cycle until the ice maker gets below freezing so you will have to wait once it is installed.
