We just got a dvd player for Chritmas and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to connect it. We have an older Magnavox TV with only a coax cable connection on the back. We subsciube to cable and so also need to connect the cable box. How do I do this?

Well, I'd fax them a copy of the receipt, but until then....
Check to see what output you hooked the video line to. It sounds like you may have hooked into the chroma or luma output (I forget which gives you B/W output hooked that way) rather than the composite video out. Take a good look at the back of the unit, note exactly what the connections are labeled, and tell me what's hooked where, and I'll guide you further if you don't figure it out yourself using the advice already given.
have this model..was trying to hook it up to a directv hughes receiver. After a day of trying and many curse words I found that using thishookup works . Hook up your satellite connection to you tv asusual...Now plug rca cables(red, yellow white) into the corresponding holes on the BACK of the Directvreceiver ..now plug the rca cables into the FRONT of the Magnavoxplayer...you will only use find holes for the white and yellow(that'sok) Now hook up up the dvd playerto the tv using the rca connection back of dvd/vcr player..or if yourtv only has a coax connection you will need a rf modulator available atwalmart etc. You will run the dvd/vcr on L2. The key is the connectionsto the FRONT of the dvd/vcr player..I hope this helps..:)
if you dont have the audio video imputs RCA jacks on your TV, you can hook it up through a RF MODULATOR you can hook up to any tv this way. they come with instructions as well as the magnavox also shows how to hook one up.
Even if you do get it connected you cannot copy from vhs to dvd as you have bought a vcr recorder with dvd player, not a dvd recorder.
You can only record to the vcr tape from a dvd, in the players controls.
