When i push the button to open you can hear the motor try to open the back but it doesn't, so I tried the key and the key won't open the back up either.

i have the same problem...there is a release switch inside of the talegate that has a lever on it that pushes the rear window release. on mine the tip was broke on the lever. take the plate off and you'll see what i'm talking about..

it could be a few things maybe your lock cylinder is froze up? or one of the rods inside could be broke and your only hearing one side open? do you have a way to take some of the plastic off like an oval piece i know some vehicles do and others dont if you do look in it and see whats going on as your pressing the button or pulling the handle

Could be the switch or the motor. Check with a test light for power to the switch. If you have power there the pull, the door panel unplug the connection to the moter and check for power to the connection by pressing the switch, repplace faulty part

check the fuses first, then the switches in the driver side door each switch has a on and off by taking continuity readings using a multi- meter that beeps put the two leads on the switch and flip the switch if it beeps it is good now check the motor with the good switch if it is not moving or just barely moving it is dead replace it using the good switch check the other motors in the other doors, for the locking mechanism check the switch same door driver side first get the book for your chevy at any auto parts store. good luck
